Clifton Lodge Preparatory School for girls and boys is a friendly, academic and nurturing school, with a nursery for children from the age of three years.

Children join the Nursery from the age of 3 and are taught by a dedicated, qualified teacher, supported by a team of caring specialist teachers and support staff in a homely classroom. The small class size, with a maximum of 20 children, enables individual and personalised learning. Work is clearly differentiated with each child taught at the appropriate level for their ability. Pupils are introduced to learning through a mixture of adult and child led activities covering the EYFS expectations with a strong focus on reading. There is also plenty of Art and craft which develops creative flair.

French, Music and Sport lessons are taught by specialist teachers. The Nursery also provides plenty of free play to ensure all children thrive through learning to share and use their imagination.

Children can be dropped off from 8am and there is after-school provision each day until 6pm, as well as onsite holiday clubs.

We have been so impressed with the nursery at Clifton Lodge. My daughter looks forward to going into nursery everyday and has formed a lovely bond with the teachers and wider staff. It is great to see the Headmaster and senior leadership team on the gate in the mornings, welcoming each child by name.
My
daughter has learnt so much in her time in nursery so far and I've been particular impressed with her phonics progression. The classroom is a light and welcoming space, with access to a lovely playground. You can tell that the teachers take pride in creating a bright and positive space.
By being part of a larger school, the children benefit from spending time with those in older years. My daughter has particularly enjoyed the buddy system with year 6 and I feel this helps prepare them for moving up within the school. It also means nursery children get to join in wider school events, like the Carol Service and Sports Day.
We would certainly recommend Clifton Lodge Nursery!

Before coming to Clifton Lodge, my son would cry and scream every morning 'I don't want to go to nursery'. Every day was a drama and a nightmare that affected us a lot. Since he has been at Clifton, everything has changed, he is happy, motivated and delighted with his teachers. We are delighted.

My daughter has been coming to the nursery since September, she is very happy here and the teachers are wonderful. She has just turned 4 and is counting/ recognising letters already. She is always happy in the morning and excited to attend nursery. My son also attended the nursery 7 years ago and we
were that impressed with the school, we enrolled him to the primary school which he still attends.

We have had such an amazing experience at Clifton Lodge nursery. Our son has progressed so much and the standard of education and care is exceptional.
I could not imagine anywhere else we would feel so at ease or our son could be better prepared to start school next year.

My daughter has thoroughly enjoyed her time at Clifton Lodge School so far. The staff are all very friendly and attentive. The rooms are very homely and colourful. Children’s work is always put up on the walls and there is always great communication. Staff are always available to talk to and available
by email. The food is excellent and always enjoyed by my children. The chef caters to all allergies and the children do not feel they are left out at all. The space is lovely for outdoor play and areas are covered for rain so that the children can still get some fresh air and enjoy their sports lessons. All staff get to know the children’s names, even if they do not teach them. The head is warm and friendly and always available if needed. The office staff are always on hand to answer any questions and are ever so quick to respond to any queries. We are very happy with the care and education that my children receive here. They have learned so much in the early years.

My son is in his final term at nursery and we could not be happier with the school. There is a real focus on learning but a lot of time is also devoted to developing the children emotionally and my son has become far more confident and resilient over the course of the school year.

The nursery is well integrated into the life of the school meaning the children bond well with the older children and quickly adapt to a school setting. The staff are kind, experienced and professional. They create a fun environment with a great range of opportunities for the children and fun activities.
My son has settled in quickly despite him being very young in the academic year. His older brother also settled well a few years ago, so I am confident the nursery can take the credit. Wonderful place for children to begin their journey towards school.

Clifton Lodge School is a small, nurturing and friendly school. It provides my son with a stimulating learning environment. During his year in the nursery class, he has progressed rapidly in reading, writing and numerical skills as well as singing and dancing activities. The teachers and school management
are approachable. Parents are invited to be part of the school community with close involvement in the child's education. Kids are happy and well behaved.

We have been exceptionally pleased with Clifton Lodge School - Nursery. Good manners and kindness are the ethos of the school and you can certainly see it! Pupils hold open doors and teachers greet pupils with a 'good morning' and a 'good afternoon' handshake every day. The Headmaster / Headmistress
greet all pupils with a handshake at the school entrance every morning - my son loves this routine! Lunches are family style with their teachers. A lot of thought and effort goes into preparing the food and menus. Clifton has a good allergy and no nut policy. The teachers are well informed about managing allergies and avoiding allergens. This was very important to us knowing our child was safe at school. Since starting at Clifton my son has thrived in all aspects of his development. He loves his teachers and he loves learning to read and write. Seeing my child happy and growing in confidence as he learns something new is amazing. My son loves going to school every day!

My son joined the nursery in September 2017. The staff have been warm and friendly which has enabled him to settle in well.
There was a noticeable improvement in his speech and understanding of words/sentences in the first term and I am confident he will continue to thrive here.

Our son started in lower reception as he reached his 4th birthday. Over the year, we saw his confidence and social interaction soar alongside his basic reading, writing and counting. He genuinely loved every day at "BIG SCHOOL". We loved the small class size (12 max) which meant he always got the support,
encouragement and attention he needed. It was the perfect start to his educational needs.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.627)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.627) out of 10 for Clifton Lodge School is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.927 for Clifton Lodge School is calculated as follows: ( (77 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 82 Ratings = 4.927

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Clifton Lodge School is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 number of registered child places is 4, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
