Oxford House is a traditional Nursery and Preparatory School for girls and boys aged two-and-a-half to eleven years. They aim for every child to discover ‘Joy in Achievement’.

This intimate and exclusive school offers every child a complete education that puts a high emphasis on traditional values. Activities in the nursery are Montessori based and the broad curriculum allows pupils to experience many opportunities such as dance, music, cooking and computer technology at an early age. Small class sizes enable dedicated staff to channel and differentiate accordingly to each pupil, with all children given one-to-one help every day to develop advanced reading and writing skills.

Oxford House achieves a happy, safe and secure environment for children to learn and develop whilst providing a secure foundation for their growing success.

My son has started with Oxford House since June 2023. The teachers there are excellent. It's his first experience in a nursery, and the staff have been incredibly patient, helping him settle in. The teachers always inform us about my son’s progress, discuss all the details about his development. My
son is excited to go to nursery every day. He also shares with us all the interesting activities he's done at school and is absolutely happy. We are confident we made the right decision.

My daughter only joined in January and speaks highly of her teachers. She looks forward to going in every day, which is quite contrary to our experience at a previous nursery. She comes home excited, with lots of her creative artwork and her overall growth is easy to see. I love that she gets 1-2-1
attention and we’re informed of what’s planned for the week with regular updates as she works at her pace with the right support. She’s dreaming big again and being nurtured to take flight!

Oxford House has brilliant Early Years teaching staff who are both courteous and highly qualified. I was particularly impressed with how the teaching staff taught my daughter how to read: by offering challenging books which accelerated her reading. She is now a fluent reader beyond her years and I attribute
this to the excellent teaching at Oxford House. The Early Years is such a vital part of one's learning journey and I have nothing but praise for Oxford House, my daughter would not want to be anywhere else.

Generally speaking, myself and my partner have been thoroughly impressed with Oxford House, especially in comparison to other childcare providers we’ve used. The staff are extremely attentive, the environment is both rich and well tended too. Plus, I really value the smaller class size. Our daughter
is blossoming as a result. I see opportunity for the school to improve its communication practices though. There are often multiple forms of communication (different apps, newsletters, email, reception etc.) often sent simultaneously which is confusing to receive. Some of the basic practicalities of communicating absence, managing uniform and clarifying pick-up times were also difficult to confirm due to such a variety of comms channels and lack of replies on some. I also sent emails to the finance team that were left unanswered for more than a week on more than one occasion too. These are small but important details I expect to be in place.

We had had a bad experience in another setting so were very anxious about care for our little boy going forward. One viewing went a long way to assuage any anxiety I had. My wife felt the same when she was obliged to also view two weeks later (while they held our place). The decision made itself once
I had a conversation with the wonderful Nursery 1 teacher.
Suffice to say they have exceeded expectations and bringing my little boy here has been one of the best decisions ever. He has flourished in leaps and bounds under their care.
His little brother is also on the list we are chomping at the bit to get him started.
Highly recommended. 7-star service.

My daughter has attended Oxford House Nursery since September 2022. The nursery staff are wonderful and the focus on literacy and numeracy is fantastic in preparing children for reception and beyond. Our daughter enjoys a nutritious cooked meal at lunchtime. We are kept informed of her development each
day in a book and on an app. We are very happy with the nursery and would recommend it to anyone looking for a school environment nursery that will prepare pre-school children for a seamless transition to reception learning.

Oxford House goes above and beyond in educating children. The teachers are always ready to help and genuinely care for the children. There’s a good understanding of each child’s abilities and I’m always kept updated on my daughter’s development. The nursery has a curriculum in place that challenges
the children. I’ve seen significant development in my daughter’s language and arithmetic skills since she started at Oxford House.

My son has not been happier since starting nursery, his learning has improved immensely and he talks very highly about his nursery teachers and is always happy to see them and bring in a book to show them to read with the class. It would be difficult to find anywhere in Colchester to compare to a nursery
with such high standards I feel there is no better place for my son to begin his educational journey as he is provided with an excellent foundation with experienced kind, caring attentive staff who always cater to the children’s individual learning ways in mind with a safe homelike environment that teaches excellent manners and traditional values which can in turn be seen at home.

The care and development of my son whilst at Oxford House School Nursery was excellent. I always felt 100% that his needs were being met and he was always happy and excited to go to nursery. The progress that he made whilst attending the nursery was remarkable and this has allowed him to flourish as
he moved through the school. It is clear that the Early Years staff truly care about the progress of each and every child in their care and they go above and beyond daily to ensure each child is able to reach their full potential.

Oxford House Nursery is fantastic. It bridges the gap between the toddler stage and school beginners, with children playing in a comfortable setting and yet learning so much every day. The days are structured, varied and exciting, with an array of activities and classes to participate in, including
music, dance, PE, art, reading, studying nature, learning phonics and counting - to name but a few.
As I parent I can see daily that my child has been taught new things, advanced for their age and yet they are flourishing and enjoying the environment. The balance of creativity and academia is met perfectly.
The staff are dedicated, caring and tremendously likeable. I thoroughly recommend (and appreciate) Oxford House Nursery.

Couldn’t have been happier with the nursery environment my child is in.
The teachers are incredible with them and there’s a fantastic balance in their learning and development with free play. The play activities are always focused around the learning activities as well.

Our experience only relates to the early years but our son has had a fantastic time. The teaching and support staff are friendly, helpful and caring. They truly have the children's happiness and best interests at the heart of everything they do. Every day our son cannot wait to get to nursery school
to see his friends and teachers. We have seen a huge positive difference in his confidence since being at Oxford House. The whole school did a fantastic job during the Covid pandemic and subsequent lockdowns. We'd definitely recommend this school.
