Woven into the fabric of the school, the multi-award-winning Nursery is a truly special place, made up of three classes – the Bees (age 2), Caterpillars (ages 2-3) and Butterflies (pre-school). Cumnor is the only independent school in Sussex that can offer flexible childcare from 7am to 7pm, 50 weeks of the year, for children aged 2-4. The setting also offers both term-time only and full-time places and up to 30 hours of early years funding.

The environment is second to none. The purpose-built Nursery has direct access to dedicated outdoor space and the wider school grounds beyond, with sweeping views across the South Downs. Flooded with natural light, the Nursery provides a truly wonderful, bespoke space for exploration, creation and discovery through play, without limits.

The staff are highly trained, passionate and experienced, committed to providing the highest standards of care and education in a welcoming, homely atmosphere. They understand and celebrate the unique qualities in every child and go above and beyond to ensure Nursery is an enjoyable and positive experience for all of them.

Funding & Fees Guide for Cumnor Nursery

  • £43* from 8am-6pm including snacks, hot meals and resources (*with 30 hrs funding applied).

  • Daily rates cover all charges such as meals and snacks, play equipment, stationery, nappies, wipes, sun cream and personal accident insurance. They also cover any specialist lessons such as Swimming, Dance & Movement, Sport, Music, Drama and Woodpeckers (our forest school). A minimum of two booked sessions is required per week.

I can't recommend Cumnor Nursery enough. Our experience with them over the past few years has been faultless. I couldn't be more pleased with both of my boys experience at Cumnor nursery. The staff are incredibly caring and attentive, always there with a huge smile and a big hug. They always ask what they have been up to and involve family life heavily into school life which is lovely.
The facilities are clean,
bright, and welcoming. The outdoor space is also fantastic - lots of room for the children to explore and play. They mix lots with the older children which I feel really helps them to become comfortable at school and get them ready well in advance of big school.
Overall, I would highly recommend Cumnor to any parent. It's truly a wonderful place for kids to learn and grow!

Cumnor Nursery is the most lovely, nurturing environment for children to start their school lives in. Our first child went there, and now our second. I am always struck by just how calm it is whenever I visit; I don't quite know how the staff manage it, considering the age of the children!
The nursery
is in a lovely modern, bright building with a nice outdoor play area, looking out onto the school fields and over to the South Downs. Nursery children are able to make full use of the facilities at the school as well - doing music, PE and other activities.
Every child is looked after with so much care, and given all the individual attention they could possibly need. The staff have a wealth of experience which is incredibly helpful not just to the children, but to parents too!

Fabulous nursery. Best around in my opinion. They provide a lot of opportunities for the children and really try to further them ready for school. Could not recommend more highly. They are able to use the school facilities and really take the time to get to know the children and care for them.

Just at the start of our journey, so far excellent. Great communication and very flexible to our needs and reassuringly receptive to dietary restrictions. Very open with parent/carer attendance at settling in sessions. Always such a calm atmosphere. Kids seem happy. Shy daughter walked into her second
trial day as a Bee, no crying, fabulous. Lovely spacious light building with great equipment and plenty of fresh air encouraged but each child allow to follow their own path. Integration with main school actively encouraged. Looking forward to watching our daughter grow in this supportive environment. (Too soon for full star breakdown assessment so rough idea.)

My daughter has been at Cumnor Nursery for a year now and is so excited for her days there. From day one she was completely at ease in the setting. They are outdoors in all weathers and keep very busy with lots of creativity and learning. The staff are wonderful and caring and it's clear all the children
adore them and love their time there. I couldn't recommend highly enough.

My child has absolutely flourished at Cumnor Nursery. A shy child, he was very reluctant to mix with others and spent the first couple of weeks at the nursery sitting on the knee of his key worker. However, with care and patience, he began to emerge from his shell. He now loves going to nursery and
joins in with the activities, from games and music lessons to playing outside. He is thriving in the structured but play-focused environment and his confidence grows day by day. I am happy knowing he is safe and cared for while I’m at work, and he is happy making friends and learning new things.

Can’t rate or recommend this nursery highly enough. My son settled quickly and bonded with both teachers and children alike. The staff are so attentive and caring and so creative with the children. The setting is fantastic; light and bright and lots of room for the children to explore, and the grounds
are brilliant for them to go on adventures with the team. Food is all made on-site and delicious. Honestly, best nursery!

My daughter has been going for a year now and she has had such a wonderful experience. Any concerns from a nervous parent are thoroughly put at ease with the staff's attentiveness and attention to detail. She has so much fun whilst learning lots of new things. She thoroughly enjoys the walks around
the grounds of the school and the lunches provided are nutritious which she has second and third helpings of! Thank you to all the wonderful staff for taking such excellent care of our little girl.

Our daughter has been attending for 5 months and is excelling in herself. She amazes us with her new talents, words, expressions etc. and is always genuinely very happy when we collect her and happy to talk about her day, on the way there in the mornings she is excited to spend the day with her friends
and teachers.
The staff are exceptional and always willing to help and advise or cover any queries should they occur.
Without a doubt would recommend it to all family and friends.

The wonderful experiences the children all have is so exciting to be a part of.
My daughter has had the best time at Cumnor and I will be so sad when it comes to an end next year. The staff have been extraordinary and are all educated to a high level which makes such a difference to their learning.

Great staff; welcoming and caring. Both boys have settled very quickly and really found their feet with friends. We moved our son to Cumnor Nursery in January 2023. We were slightly apprehensive as he’d been settled at a Forest School Nursery but we were keen to move to more of a pre-school setting. Our worries were entirely unfounded. The warm, friendly, caring and deeply kind staff went above and beyond to ensure
he settled quickly and put us instantly at ease too. He’s quickly developed bonds with staff and other children; his speech and development has come on leaps and bounds and most importantly, he’s visibly excited each morning when we pass through the gates. We couldn’t ask for a better setting!

Cumnor Nursery is a very nurturing environment for the children where each of their individual needs get paid incredible attention. I have had both of my children go through this nursery and I couldn’t be happier. The range of activities is extremely wide and the children get to learn a lot about the

My son has been at Cumnor Nursery since the age of 2, the whole environment and journey from Bees, Caterpillars to Butterflies has been just wonderful, he really has grown his wings in preparation for reception. The nursery is terrific. The facilities are great, the staff ratios appear to be higher then legally required, the children always look happy, as do the staff. The staff will go out of their way to make sure your child is cared for. My child runs in everyday which is such a joy and relief as a parent.

A place for nurturing and developing a child. Having a baby in COVID time meant that we had to support our child in not being shy or scared. This was the perfect place to develop that. We moved to the area as soon as we found this amazing nursery.
