Toddler Room (age 2 - 3) - the aim is to promote children's independence, their self-awareness and to build upon their ability to communicate with the world around them. At the age of 2 it is a prime time for the children to make links and new pathways of learning - it is therefore considered the time in which teaching can have the most impact to support brain development. The aim is to provide 2-year-olds with an array of learning opportunities throughout provision both indoors and outdoors in which they can play, explore and consolidate skills as well as providing specific times of teaching throughout the day. At the age of 2-3 year, children begin to test the boundaries and explore risk taking as they find their feet in the world around them. Practitioners support and promote this by providing opportunities for controlled and supported risk taking such as climbing and balancing, assault courses, large scale construction and more.

Preschool room (age 3 - 4) - Here, the team work on getting children school-ready throughout this year. The room is set up with various areas of continuous provision that each lend themselves to the areas of learning in the EYFS, allowing skills and abilities to be consolidated through play. The team plan the environment from the children’s interests but also skilfully add inviting provocations that have the intention of either teaching new things, consolidating current knowledge, skills or next stepping a child’s learning to progress further. Each day, children are engaged in small group times that are planned by key workers to meet the needs of the children, differentiating the learning intention as necessary. The outdoor environment is an extension of what is offered indoors but can be done on a much larger scale such as large-scale construction with vehicle tyres, planks and crates or large-scale water play with pipes, tubing and trays.

My son had the best time at Whitby Heath Pre-school. He was shy and didn't speak English at all. All of the teachers were really patient and caring. He has never come home sad or complained about school. He enjoys school very much, he has built his conflict and language skills at school. He settled
really quickly and well. From a parent's perspective, if I had any concerns or questions, all of the teachers are willing to help. At the end of the day, the teachers will patiently tell you what the child did in detail which is reassuring. I was so concerned about my son's social skills, because he is quite shy. The teachers noticed and really help me with that aspect by communicating me with after school or during the day to let me know how he gets on. Highly recommend Whitby Heath Preschool from a child aspect and a parent aspect.

Wonderful engaging staff, who offer so much support not only to the children but also to the parents.

My little one has been attending Whitby Heath Pre-school since September 2022 when he joined the toddler group. The progress he has made whilst there is fantastic. Every member of staff makes him feel welcome daily, they encourage him daily to practice the basics, i.e good manners, kind hands, listening
ears etc. He has far more fun there than he would at home with me.
Now he's in Pre-school he joins in with PE on a Friday morning in the school hall. He loves to play Duck, Duck Goose! He also loves the outdoor play space they have there.
He has developed great bonds with all his teachers and often talks of them. The staff are supportive of both myself and my little boy. They encourage you to keep them up to date with important events happening in the little ones' life, i.e. holidays, new members to the family, days out etc. He often mentions carpet time and the books and songs they all do together.

The staff in the pre-school are always welcoming, caring and considerate. Often having to deal with the separation anxiety from my daughter, however, she always comes home with a smile having enjoyed her day thoroughly.

My little one has been painfully quiet but the setting has worked with her at her own pace to bring out her confidence. Her key worker is clearly very child orientated and this compassion has supported us all with the transition, before big school.

My child started this setting in September and settled in straight away. He loves going to preschool every day, He has a happy face going into preschool and coming home. He really enjoys his time here and seems like he has so much fun. This makes me feel happy and settled knowing my child enjoys his
time in this setting. One lady is also being a great help with my child and they seem to have a lovely bond! I can also see a difference with his speech and communication since September.

Very helpful staff, who we are able to discuss things with. Various items are scheduled each day for the children and the staff always accommodating when discussing what has been done that day which helps knowing what our granddaughter has been doing that day.

The staff at Whitby Heath have been incredibly supportive and nurturing of my child. They follow the children's interests within the setting, and also incorporate interests from home that they are aware of.
For example, my child visited the opticians recently and needs glasses - so the preschool staff
role played opticians with the whole class and made glasses out of pipe cleaners!
I am so grateful to them for their hard work and support.

Absolutely wonderful preschool, all staff are so informative about our son’s day at preschool, our son has just started his first week and he runs in already! My little girl has been going to Whitby Heath preschool for a year in April, she absolutely adores going! She loves all the staff and talks fondly about them all. Her keyworker is great, so patient and really knows how to communicate well with our little girl in a way that she understands and has helped
her progress massively. All of the staff are kind and welcoming whenever you have a question. The preschool is run very well, organised, clean and the children seem very happy and excited about being there. As a parent, all you want is to feel reassured that your little one is safe and happy in an environment that is clean and full of lovely, caring people. Great preschool.

This early years setting offers a warm and friendly environment, fostering a nurturing atmosphere for young children. The caring staff create a positive environment. My child absolutely loves going to preschool and will often share stories about his time there, which in my eyes speaks volumes. The staff
really take into consideration the children’s interests and will implement them into their everyday activities. My child often brings home drawings, paintings and creations which tells me he’s had a fun and educational experience. Couldn’t recommend Whitby Heath enough!

I can't commend the staff enough. Ever since my little boy started nursery, he's been met with nothing but care and kindness. The staff swiftly aided his adjustment, making each day enjoyable and interactive, showing genuine curiosity in the children's interests. They strike a perfect balance of warmth
and professionalism. In this short time, my son has grown fond of the staff and truly enjoys his time here. Their approachability and detailed end of day summaries make them truly exceptional.
