Little Forest Folk Twickenham is a forest nursery that is currently rated GOOD by OFSTED (Aug 2022). It encourages two to five year olds to become adaptable, innovative learners in a safe and caring environment. The setting ensures that the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is met whilst in their natural surroundings and is proud to offer a 1:4 ratio of staff to children, which is one of the main foundations of little ones thriving in the great outdoors.

Using the resources that the outdoors has to offer encourages children's minds and triggers their imagination. Whilst Little Forest Folk follows child-led and play-based care, the curriculum is still adhered to & little ones are observed and assessed as they would be in an indoor nursery, just in natural surroundings.

At Little Forest Folk Twickenham, the exciting outside space is located with the indoor space, within the grounds of the historic Heatham House and alongside the River Crane which children are able to observe throughout the year and even explore in the warmer months! There is a cosy sleeping tent with inflatable sleeping mats for children who nap in the middle of the day as well as a fire circle for wild cooking and holding conversations. There are also forest toilets, a nappy changing tent and handwashing stations on site for all to use.

The Full Day children arrive at the indoor space at 8am for a hearty, homemade breakfast. Joined at 9:30am by their Sessional friends, they then head out to the magical woodland garden in their wellies and waterproofs, where they spend the rest of their day outdoors, fully surrounded by nature. A morning snack, lunch and an afternoon snack are enjoyed in the camp. Full Day children say goodbye to their Sessional friends at 3:30, before enjoying more child-led play, enjoying a scrumptious dinner in the indoor space and then heading home.

Little Forest Folk Twickenham was life-changing for our son. He thrived during his 2 years there, keeping active, engaged about the outdoors and the world around him, and made wonderful friends with the children and educators alike. As parents, we were kept up to date with photos, updates and chats
at the gate, and had no doubt he was in the best hands. The nursery is incredibly well-managed and all the staff seem highly engaged and enthusiastic. The food also was excellent.

My daughter started at Little Forest Folk Twickenham just a week after turning two and attended for 2.5 years. It was her first and only childcare setting, and she loved it from day one. I've seen her grow both emotionally and physically, and I truly believe that unstructured, imaginative play has been
beneficial for her-she often engages in creative play on her own at home. The outdoor setting of this nursery is an incredible way to help children develop a love for nature, no matter the weather. We feel so fortunate to have Little Forest Folk in Twickenham, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Well, what can I say about Little Forest Folk Twickenham? Since starting my elder son at the nursery in 2022, our values, in terms of how we choose to educate our children, have transformed. A truly child-led environment where every child is understood and known. They have had the freedom to grow and
experience themselves as part of the community in nature. They are spiritually, physically, mentally and emotionally stimulated in the outdoor setting and learning as such takes on a new meaning. We have chosen to continue educating our three children in this manner as we have seen how being outdoors, guided by supportive adults, fosters self-motivation, good health and academics later down the line. Special thanks to the Nursery manager, who is an expert in the field. Under her careful leadership, all staff have come to know my children as individuals, becoming key figures in their early years. The fruits of their hard work will extend far beyond their early years. Thank you!

I have only wonderful things to say about Little Forest Folk Twickenham. Two of my children went there and they absolutely flourished both physically and emotionally whilst they were there. It is a wonderfully serene outdoor space where the kids can let off some steam and also let their imaginations
flow under the care of the patient and energetic educators. We loved that all ages of children mix together and found that it really helped our kids development both when they were the smallest and could learn off others and when they were the biggest and could use their ability to emphasise, something they had learnt so well at Little Forest Folk Twickenham and take on more of a caring role. We loved that the educators make such an effort to get to know each child's passion and interests rather than a one size fits all approach to activity based learning. We would wholeheartedly recommend this nursery to anyone.

Little Forest Folk Twickenham is a brilliant setting which my son attended from the age of 3. He attended part-time (2 days a week) and was at an indoor nursery for 2 days, and honestly, it can't compare. He preferred the staff, the room for imagination, the outdoor openness and he also made much closer
friends in the forest. If we would do it again, we would have put him in full-time. It is how childhood should be.

Little Forest Folk Twickenham is an amazing nursery and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a nursery for their little ones.
The staff are very kind, friendly and attentive. They are very passionate about the nursery's ethos and create the most wonderful place for the children to learn, play
and thrive. The outdoor setting is fantastic for learning and open-ended play. My son's imagination has come to life since attending the forest. We will be very sad when my son has to leave!

We absolutely love Little Forest Folk Twickenham. It's a wonderful mix of a peaceful outdoor space with brilliant educators who bring such energy and patience to the forest. We have noticed such a difference in our son's confidence, ability to empathise with other children and language ability since
joining Little Forest Folk from another nursery that was predominantly inside with segregated rooms by age group. We couldn't be happier with the nursery and would recommend to anyone.

My little one loves nature and being outdoors and so Little Forest Folk is a dream for her. The opportunity to explore and learn organically under the care of some lovely educators is essential for children in the early years and I feel this nursery definitely does that. The staff are caring and attentive
and I love the daily snaps and updates on how she's doing. Definitely recommend.

Our two daughters have been through Little Forest Folk Twickenham full-time (one still attending) and we can recommend this nursery as outstanding in all domains. Very stimulating and nurturing. Also on average better staff and more favourable ratios of teacher/children than at any other local alternatives.
We have direct experience as parents at three other local nurseries, and we can confidently say LFF Twickenham is in a different league!

Our older daughter attended Little Forest Folk Twickenham and our younger one still does. It is a small nursery and there is little staff rotation, so the staff really get to know very well the children. The staff is amazing, highly motivated and go above and beyond to provide the best care for the
children. Children are encouraged to be curious, and independent and to respect and love nature. We could not have asked more for the EYFS education for our daughters. Thank you very much to all of the Little Forest Folk team!

Little Forest Folk is an incredible setting for children from 2 years. We moved our son there in September after he turned 3 and he has loved it. The children are outdoors all day, wrapped up in winter and in shorts and t-shirts in summer. Their philosophy is based on open-ended play and being in nature.
I was nervous about the set-up at first but have seen our son’s confidence, resilience and imagination bloom since he joined.

Miranda is the nursery manager at Twickenham and has been with Little Forest Folk for 4+ years, across various roles and nurseries.


Miranda is a Montessori trained teacher who loves working with the early years ages, especially in the outdoors. She has worked in day nurseries, private nurseries, as a tutor, as a nanny and she has also worked and travelled extensively abroad over the years.


Miranda loves walking and has conquered several coast lines and ancient walls, she loves creating and getting messy, she has climbed a few mountains, and has an allotment in her back garden. Miranda thoroughly enjoys exploring, learning and accompanying a child on their adventurous investigation of life.

When Brenda visited Little Forest Folk for the first time, she didn't want to leave! All her adventurous early childhood experiences were replayed as she spent time in the forest. Her heart was touched by the sight of the environment, how children interacted with it and their laughter in the background. Muddy faces and hands.


Brenda was born in Africa, in Botswana and spent most of her early years in Zimbabwe. Her visit to Little Forest Folk provided the opportunity for her to really reflect back on her early years experiences where she spent most of it freely playing, interacting with natural elements; exploring the outdoors, barefoot most of the time alongside her peers. Building dens, and mud houses, climbing huge stones and trees, making fires and cooking. Weaving things such as hats and baskets using grass.


She came to the UK at the age of 9 and continued to find ways to interact with the outdoors. For example, regularly visiting parks just to climb trees. As Brenda grew older, she knew she wanted to learn from, as well as work with and help people of all ages and backgrounds. She embarked on a journey of studying childcare starting from CACHE certificate level 2 and learned her way up to her Level 6 BA Hons in Early Childhood Studies with Performing Arts. Currently, Brenda continues to spend her free time outdoors. She finds she gets lots of inspiration to create things that support children's creativity and thinking skills, using natures loose parts and through observations of the natural world. Over the past 20 years, she has had opportunities to work with children from the ages of 3 months to 5 years old in a variety of nursery settings such as community nurseries, school, private and Montessori whilst also leading and mentoring team members. She even became the outdoors lead at one of her settings. These experiences have tremendously helped Brenda to develop a strong understanding of Pedagogy in her early years and the EYFS.


She finds that children, teenagers and adults are naturally drawn to her and has experience of working with senior citizens. This has supported her to develop empathy skills, compassion and active listening skills which are all very important transferable skills in any early years setting. Brenda is very excited to join and be a part of a team of like-minded individuals with a keen interest in providing the very best start for our children in an enabling environment.

Originally from Slovakia, Denisa is multi-lingual and has spent many years working with children through her work as a family photographer.


Having lived in the countryside with an agricultural background, nature and gardening have always been a very important part of her life. Denisa enjoys going for muddy walks whilst camping with her family and dog and has also loved teaching her son all about plants, nature and animals, which has led her to pursue a career in forest education.


She can't wait to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children to explore and learn in!
