Brighton College Prep Kensington is a happy and vibrant school for girls and boys aged 2 to 13 years.

An exciting, bright and buzzing family school, the nursery is well known for its welcoming atmosphere, high academic standards and exceptional pastoral care. The goal is for pupils to enjoy school and be inspired to achieve their full potential.

Academic excellence is at the very heart of a Brighton College education. Experienced and dedicated teachers shape the curriculum to suit children’s needs and interests, preparing them to leave as confident, well-prepared and highly motivated learners.

The unique location in the heart of Kensington allows the nursery to use the city of London as an extension of the classroom. They make use of all the capital has to offer, including the Natural History Museum, the V&A, Hyde Park and the Science Museum, to enhance every pupil’s learning.

The facilities also include a two-acre garden for pupils to use for daily play and outdoor learning, a Makerspace for interactive STEAM learning, and access to Imperial College sports facilities.

The nursery believes passionately in offering a wide range of opportunities to all children, whatever their ability.

Specialist sports lessons commence in Reception with competitive play commencing in Year 3, benefitting both high-achievers and the less confident. They focus on the key sports of football, netball, rugby, hockey and cricket. Weekly swim lessons at Imperial College begin in Year 1.

In addition to music and drama teaching from Nursery onwards, pupils can participate in school ensembles and private tuition with specialist teachers from the Royal College of Music.

Lois Gaffney

Job Title: Head

Joined: 2022

Mrs Gaffney has a wealth of experience in the independent school sector, joining Prince’s Gardens from Brighton College Singapore where she was Deputy Head from 2020-2022.


Mrs Gaffney knows the independent school sector well, having worked in leadership positions within prep schools for the past 13 years. She started her career at Old Buckenham Hall Preparatory School where she held the role of Head of Science and Designated Safeguarding Lead before progressing to Deputy Head.


Mrs Gaffney then moved to Korea where she became Head of Prep School and Vice Principal for North London Collegiate School in Jeju, before relocating back to England to join the prestigious Handcross Park School in Sussex.


Qualified in Science, and Early Years and Primary, Mrs Gaffney has experience in 11+ and 13+ schools and the International Primary Curriculum, the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, and The Prep School Baccalaureate. Most recently, this broad experience allowed Mrs Gaffney to write a complete curriculum as the founding Deputy at Brighton College Singapore.


Mrs Gaffney is passionate about curricula development, pupil progress, and innovative teaching and learning. In recent years, she has specialised in developing excellent Early Years provision, ensuring the foundations for the youngest children are well developed.
