There’s never been a more important time to be outdoors and Back to the Garden Childcare sets new standards in post-Covid childcare with its innovative outdoor classroom, forest schools-based curriculum and all-seasons learning and exploration space.

Organic child-led learning in the great outdoors has always been very firmly at the heart of the ethos at Back to the Garden, with the nursery committed to a natural approach based around spending as much time as possible within nature and enjoying fresh air.

The nursery has invested heavily in its already beautiful outdoor areas to create an exceptional exploration space full of wonder that includes a magnificent all-weather tepee, woodworking shed and garden. The playscape allows children to be children, harness the power of their own imaginations and experiment with nature and all of her natural resources to develop at their own pace.

The outdoor classroom and daily forest school sessions are unique to Back to the Garden. The tepee is an engaging area which is used for storytelling, regular yoga sessions and wellness activities that enables the children to enjoy light projections and learning experiences with the nursery's wonderful external partners, such as The Whitworth art gallery in Manchester.

The woodworking shed is a superb space with endless possibilities for creative play, complemented by the much loved forest school that includes activities such as playing with tools, singing, making dens and exploring the natural world.

Being outdoors is fundamental to the nursery's values and the outdoor classroom and forest school curriculum provide an enviable and organic nursery space in which pre-schoolers can interact, discover and physically challenge themselves.

The easiest way to write a good review is when everything is perfect it is so natural that from time to time parents have some concerns regarding childcare. This week Back To The Garden Childcare Broadheath team exceeded my expectations! An amazing example of how perfectly they reacted to my worries,
how they gave me answers, how they calmed me down, and how they improved all the processes all of the sudden. Feels like a second home, when the most important thing is to communicate and to understand each other.

Our daughter attended Back To The Garden from age one and a half to four. We had the most amazing experience. All the staff were fantastic, the setting is just so lovely, very spacious and relaxed. The ethos and learning model is child-led, and the children have a really positive environment to grow
and learn. Everyone involved in the nursery, from nursery assistants to the nursery manager to the cook and gardener, really cares and are truly committed. We were sad when our daughter had to transition to school, but she has made the move with confidence and everything she needs to succeed in the future.

We are very happy with the experience that our son gets at nursery however we do have a few comments.
I am aware the teachers are busy during the day but we have found the updates have become less and less, majority of the time it is done once we have picked them up. We would appreciate it being more
consistent, just even if it is only posting what he has eaten and slept so far that day so we can plan ahead for dinner timings.
Also, when we came round for the initial show around we were told there would be excursions outside. For obvious reasons that hasn’t been achievable but now things are getting back to normal we’d like to see some of these things happen.

My son has been at Back To The Garden since September 2019. He has thrived here and loves going to nursery. During the lockdowns they have communicated well and ensured we had activities to do with our children when they could not attend - we had some fun zoom lessons when the bubbles were closed. All
members of staff invest their time into each child whether they are the key worker or not.
My son is now in preschool and excelling thanks to all the work and care from Back To The Garden staff.

Lovely setting, lovely carers. Our daughter settled very quickly and was very happy going in every morning. Her language developed really well during her time there. We've just moved back to Belgium, and she is reacting very differently to her new setting, which makes us appreciate her time at Back

My daughter attended Back To The Garden for just over a year ( only leaving as we moved). I couldn’t speak more highly of the team particularly those in the baby room. My daughter really blossomed there and it was lovely to see her make friends and grow. The team do a wonderful job keeping the children

My daughter adores coming here. She started in January and I have nothing but praise for the standard of care, love and teaching that the staff here provide. My daughter loves it and the ethos of the nursery is fantastic in such a crazy world to bring it all back to nature and give growing children
an understanding of the earth and all the natural beauty right at our fingertips. No complaints whatsoever, best choice I made sending my child here, I have had peace of mind since I picked her up after her first day.

Back To The Garden have always been great with our child, over the two years he has been there they have helped bring on his communication skills and development above what we expected. After viewing a number of different nurseries, the feel of calmness and one-to-one time and care felt above all other
nurseries we visited. Recently he has been bringing his work from the tool shed back home with such a proud smile on his face from what he has made. The meals are always healthy and the nursery have aided in bringing his eating on brilliantly. Highly recommend the nursery to any parent thinking of enrolling their child.

My son has just returned to nursery after 5 months off due to the current situation, he couldn’t wait to get back to see both his friends and the staff, which I think speaks volumes for the type of setting this is.
The resources both in and outdoors are fantastic. When I’ve seen meals being served
the food looks and smells amazing and my son always talks about the yummy food he has eaten. The staff always greet both myself and my son with a smile and nothing you ask ever seems to be too much trouble. I feel communication from the nursey is of a consistently high standard, keeping me up to date with the general goings-on within the setting as well as my son's development, be it through talks with the staff, the parent app or emails.

I have to say this is a fab nursery! I have a three-year-old in preschool and a 19-month-old in the pre-toddler room and they have both settled so well since starting at the setting in January 2020. They were so friendly when we did our nursery tour and they were very accommodating when making arrangements
to view. They are very friendly each time I go in for pick up. Generally, there is such a lovely vibe to the place. I completely agree with their ethos of learning through play and their introduction of yoga particularly to the pre-schoolers. Also, the food seems amazing. They both eat everything up - more than they do at home.
Overall I would recommend Back to the Garden to anyone. Fab, fab place!

Great nursery, helping with toilet training. My little girl has been able to learn at her own pace and since being at the nursery, has developed well. We decided to keep her at Back To The Garden instead of transferring her to a school nursery based on how happy our little girl has been.

My daughter settled quite quickly at Back To The Garden despite only going a few days a week. She loves it there and seemed to have bonded well with a few of the staff members.
One great thing about the nursery is the friendliness of the manager and staff. You will always have a warm smile to greet
you as you go in and out. It seems they genuinely care for the children and parents too. My daughter has really come out of her shell. She is chatty, always loves to sing and dance and they always indulge her in these things. I am a happy mum and it gives me confidence now to have her there full time.

Ann Marie, from Bryn near Ashton-in-Makerfield, has vast experience in the childcare sector, from nursery manager and regional manager for several nurseries to NVQ trainer and Ofsted inspector.


Ann Marie is a qualified NNEB with a diploma in post-qualifying studies. She is also an award-winning nursery manager, recently picking up the Best Individual Nursery Award from Nursery Management Today.
