Bishop Cornish Preschool provides teacher-led nursery provision for children from the age of 2.

Housed in the Education Centre, a unique and innovative purpose-built award-winning eco-building located in a stunning location next to Bishop Cornish Primary School, the children are offered exciting and stimulating learning experiences.

Led by experienced staff using creative spaces inside and out on the covered deck, they are dedicated to providing the very best care, with an effective key-worker system ensuring that every child is supported, loved and a valued contributor to the preschool community.

Breakfast Club is available daily from 7.45am and after school club facilities up until 5.30pm for children from the age of 2.

Funding & Fees Guide for Bishop Cornish Preschool

  • Price for 1 session: 8.45-11.45 or 12.30-3.30 / 2 year olds £22.56 / 3-4 year olds £15.90. Price for all day: 2 year olds £51.62 / 3-4 year olds £38.30. Lunchtime session (bring your own lunch or book a school dinner) £6.50.

  • Charging and Invoice information: Invoices will be raised be for each half term and must be paid within 14 days of the invoice date unless paying by vouchers in which case invoices must be paid in full by the end of each half term. Children can receive up to 30 hours free funding for preschool attendance starting with the term after they have their third birthday. We welcome children to preschool from their second birthday. Funding for free sessions at preschool may be available for eligible children before they become entitled to the 30 hours funding. Sessions that are not funded will be invoiced to parents/carers. Please speak to a member of staff for more details.

Amazing pre-school, my little one is always very happy to go and comes out at the end of the day very happy talking all about his day. Lots of updates throughout the day of what they are up to. Staff are all very friendly and lovely. Would highly recommend it.

Our son was only weeks old when we expressed interest for our son to join the preschool despite an almost 2 year wait we were not disappointed. Our eldest son also attended and still talks so positively about his time at Bishop Cornish Preschool.
We cannot praise the staff enough, our son has thrived.
Staff are supportive and will accommodate any requests. Communication is brilliant with regular updates on the fun they are all having.

We would highly recommend Bishop Cornish Pre-school. All the staff are fantastic, so approachable and friendly. If we ever have any concerns we know they will help and put our minds at ease. Nothing is ever too much trouble. The care they have shown each child is amazing. Our son has only been there
a short period of time and has settled in so well. He has thrived so much. I cannot thank them enough for everything they have done for our son. You are all amazing!

We honestly cannot praise Bishop Cornish Preschool or the amazing staff there enough. They have nurtured our daughter from day one and she has done nothing but grow in confidence under their care. The staff there, led by the manager who is just superb, genuinely care about the children in the preschool.
They have been on the journey of our daughter's development with us every step of the way and they celebrate every achievement with us. Nothing has been too much trouble for them and it has been so wonderful to see how much our daughter has thrived since being there. They know the children that they look after and build their strengths. The facilities are excellent, the literacy and numeracy programme are great and we couldn't ask for anything more. If you are looking for a wonderful, nurturing environment, then this is it.

My child has attended this preschool since September 2020. He has mild hearing loss and wears hearing aids. Despite this potential barrier to learning, Bishop Cornish Preschool has helped my child to reach his full potential whilst in their care. He is so excited for school in September and is taking
with him so many skills we only hoped he would have when we got his hearing diagnosis as a baby. The staff are knowledgeable, caring and very engaging with both children and parents. I have now sent three children through this preschool, starting in 2013, and it has been amazing throughout.
The grounds itself are excellent for little explorers with access to a whole outdoor forest school experience.

The practice, practitioners and environment here are absolutely fantastic!
The nurture, child-centred learning and overall setting are exactly what you want for the most precious person in your life.
Practitioners are always approachable, and the links between home and setting are fab! I feel I
can talk to my son about his week and extend his learning at home due to the consistent updates with his teachers.
The resources, creativity and consideration for all areas of a child's learning and development are fantastic, and personal social and emotional development forefront. Something that I feel is foremost in helping little minds to thrive!

Couldn’t be more impressed with Bishop Cornish! My daughter has come on leaps since starting with the nursery in September, and both her and I love it. As her mum, it is always a pleasure to have a catch-up with the teachers at the end of the day. Pick up and drop off is smooth and stress-free! The
ladies are so caring to the children and have a great bond with them all. My little girl has a mixture of cooked lunch and packed lunch, depending on how she feels and she always tells me how yummy it is! I mean who wouldn’t love a roast on Wednesdays! The Tapestry updates are so lovely to receive throughout the day, and we had a great one-to-one with one of her teachers last year to fill us in on how she was getting on, which was really reassuring.
Couldn’t rate this nursery enough! Amazing!

This is an amazing preschool! I’m so lucky that two of my children have come here. The ladies are so lovely, caring, fun and smiley, I could go on. The moment my children were greeted with big smiles off they went, I’m regularly kept informed via the app. They get loads of outdoor play and learn so
much. With Covid-19 I was worried my youngest would struggle, the ladies were so supportive and reassuring and my daughter has loved every moment. They think of everything and keep you fully up to date. I have so much confidence in the preschool that my child is safe and having so much fun whilst learning. Thank you ladies for giving my children the best possible start, you’re all amazing.

This is an amazing pre-school! The staff are so friendly, happy, cheerful and lovely! I was anxious about sending my little one to pre-school as most Mum's probably are. The staff were amazing with handling my little one when he was upset going in on his first and second week and they reassured me throughout
the day that he was happy and that he wasn’t upset for long. Which I believe was a clear reflection on how welcoming and friendly the staff are towards the children! (This helped so much with an upset mum too). My son always comes out of pre-school happy and is so excited to go to pre-school. We look through tapestry together after pre-school and he’s so excited to tell me everything he has done that day. What they teach the children is amazing too! Very impressed! I cannot recommend this pre-school enough! It’s amazing! Thank you to all the lovely staff.

The most wonderful preschool. Both of my older boys attended Bishop Cornish Preschool and when we found out that they had started to accept 2-year-olds we jumped at the chance to send our youngest son here to. I was very anxious about sending him as he is so little, having only just turned 2, but I
really didn’t need to be. The staff are all so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble, from a welcoming hug in the morning to the multiple changes of clothes from my little one loving the water play and mud kitchen so much! My little one loves his preschool days and has come on so much with regards to development and learning to share and play with other children. I can’t recommend this brilliant preschool and the wonderful staff enough, they have given all 3 of my boys the best start to learning we could ask for.

Bishop Cornish preschool is an amazing place to send your little ones. We have been a part of Bishop Cornish for the last 4 years. Both my boys attended for 2 years and they have both thrived from the care and attention they received from this setting. The children have many opportunities to explore
and get dirty in the woods which I feel is a very important part of childhood and learning about the outdoors.
Both boys' key workers were fantastic and recognised their potential. When I left them I felt very much at peace as I knew the staff cared about my boys and if they were upset I knew they would get the emotional support they needed. I can not recommend Bishop Cornish enough. It is an amazing place with amazing ladies running it.

Bishop Cornish Preschool is simply outstanding. Both my children have attended and I believe that they have benefited in so many ways by doing so. They have both grown in confidence, improved social skills and have learnt a great deal. It is the perfect way to prepare children for school. The teachers
are a credit to Bishop Cornish, each of them is kind, caring and passionate about providing the best quality of care for the children. My daughter is always greeted with a friendly and happy face. The way they engage the children in play and a huge range of educational activities is fantastic. It is clear that the children have fun, my daughter can't wait to go! The communication is great - it is so nice to hear and see what the children get up to throughout the week. This preschool really is exceptional and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an outstanding preschool setting for their child.

A wonderful preschool. My boy has had two years here and has thoroughly enjoyed going. He loves all the teachers and has made lots of friends. His overall development and learning has been excellent. My son has loved coming into preschool every morning. He looks forward to seeing his teachers and friends and always has a smile on his face entering and leaving school. Both of my children went to this preschool. One left last year and the other is about to leave to go to school. The preschool has helped them to develop and learn ready to start primary school.
They learn so much about emotional development and feelings, which I feel is very important at preschool
age to give them a good understanding of the world.
I have no regrets sending my children to Bishop Cornish Preschool and would highly recommend it to anyone looking at preschools.

The staff at Bishop Cornish Preschool are very friendly and informative. As a parent, I always feel connected to my daughter whilst she’s there through pictures and updates.
She talks a lot about her day and always has fun. As she is one of the youngest children it’s reassuring that the deputy manager
finds imaginative ways to explain the big feelings and emotions. My child has really taken on soft or sandpaper to explain emotions and will ask others feelings - does that feel soft or sandpaper?
It’s an innovative and fun setting that stimulates the children’s imagination and learning.
Phonics and writing have improved and during the pandemic the staff have kept the environment normal and safe. Bubbles have become part of our lives and are such an easy concept for the kids to accept and understand. I cannot praise them highly enough, there isn’t a day my child hasn’t come home with stories of her day, all the staff are amazing.

I started working at Bishop Cornish Preschool in October 2016. I have always worked in child care since I qualified and spent some time as a Deputy and a Manager before I had my children. I decided to take some time off to spend time at home with my two children until they were both in full-time school. I’ve loved getting back into working with children and always knew this was the job I wanted to do.
I’m in preschool every day and have completed my Paediatric First Aid qualification and Food Hygiene. I have also been on a Makaton course which helps support my experience of working with children who need that extra support with speech, language and communication. I have experience in working closely with children who have Special Educational Needs ranging from speech to development.

Sarah Stokesbury

Job Title: Deputy Preschool Manager

I’m the longest serving member of the team! I’ve been working at the preschool since we opened in September 2009, all the way back when I was a Miss Bliss! I had the pleasure of helping to establish the preschool from the beginning and it’s been a joy to see it grow and develop over the years.
I am obsessed with penguins, the colour yellow and am creative and musical too! I play a range of instruments such as flute, Irish whistles, bass and guitar and love to incorporate these skills into preschool life.
I’ve a real interest and fascination with the emotional well-being of children and teaching children about love and kindness. I enjoy researching and creating resources and activities to help the children understand and manage their emotions in a fun way and to develop the skill of empathy. I have undertaken Emotional First Aid training which was really valuable in supporting my interest and what we do at preschool.
I have a Level 3 NVQ in Children’s Care Learning and Development and am very experienced, working for over 16 years in Early Years. I am Paediatric First Aid Trained, have completed Food Hygiene training and complete regular safeguarding training alongside my colleagues.

Hi, I’m Leanne Elford part of the preschool team, I have worked in the preschool for 7 years now and have loved every minute of it! I have been working in childcare for 22 years with an NVQ level 3 in childcare. I currently cover lunchtime every day in preschool in between my work in the primary school as a teaching assistant and every morning and evening at the Breakfast & Afterschool Club.


Both my children have come through our preschool and carried onto primary school and would never have wanted them to go anywhere else. In my spare time, around family time, I help look after the school animals and you will always find me pottering about with the chickens at the preschool end. Don’t be offended if you hear me call the children chickens as that’s the mother hen in me and you will always be able to spot me in my flip-flops all year round!

Hi! I’m Rachel Nash, the newest member of the Bishop Cornish Pre-school team! I will be joining full time every day so am looking forward to getting to know all the families. I have been in childcare since I began college in 2016 and have loved it. I have my childcare level 3 as well as an early years foundation degree. I have experience in different early years settings; such as pre-school and 1:1 special needs assistant in a primary school. In my spare time I love to bake and going to the beach, all year round even if it’s a bit chilly!
