Bishop Cornish Preschool provides teacher-led nursery provision for children from the age of 2.

Housed in the Education Centre, a unique and innovative purpose-built award-winning eco-building located in a stunning location next to Bishop Cornish Primary School, the children are offered exciting and stimulating learning experiences.

Led by experienced staff using creative spaces inside and out on the covered deck, they are dedicated to providing the very best care, with an effective key-worker system ensuring that every child is supported, loved and a valued contributor to the preschool community.

Breakfast Club is available daily from 7.45am and after school club facilities up until 5.30pm for children from the age of 2.

Funding & Fees Guide for Bishop Cornish Preschool

  • Price for 1 session: 8.45-11.45 or 12.30-3.30 / 2 year olds £22.56 / 3-4 year olds £15.90. Price for all day: 2 year olds £51.62 / 3-4 year olds £38.30. Lunchtime session (bring your own lunch or book a school dinner) £6.50.


  • Charging and Invoice information: Invoices will be raised be for each half term and must be paid within 14 days of the invoice date unless paying by vouchers in which case invoices must be paid in full by the end of each half term. Children can receive up to 30 hours free funding for preschool attendance starting with the term after they have their third birthday. We welcome children to preschool from their second birthday. Funding for free sessions at preschool may be available for eligible children before they become entitled to the 30 hours funding. Sessions that are not funded will be invoiced to parents/carers. Please speak to a member of staff for more details.

I cannot praise this Preschool enough! From day one my son fell in love with his new Preschool. He absolutely adores all of the staff who are incredible! They are so caring, fun and enthusiastic. He talks so passionately about his teachers, friends and his day when he gets home. Even after over 3 months
away due to COVID he was so excited to return although a bit sheepish on his first day. From day 2 of his return, he wandered in without a backwards glance. To me, this speaks volumes. He is more than ready to start school emotionally and is thriving with his education thanks to Bishop Cornish Preschool. The building and grounds are amazing and the animals are an added bonus. I know he will miss the staff terribly when he goes to school in September. Thank you all for making his time so memorable and special.

Both my children have attended pre-school at Bishop Cornish. The pre-school staff look after the children like their own. Genuinely kind and caring to each and every child.
The standard of teaching, particularly through play is imaginative and engaging.
Both my children have gained so much confidence
since attending and never a day when they didn’t want to go!
The pre-school building and wooded area are modern, well equipped and continually updated with new and creative ideas and activities.
A great place to get children equipped for school life.
I cannot recommend the pre-school enough!

This preschool is fantastic. Outstanding does not cut it! The staff are wonderful and most very experienced in relation to early childhood development. Couldn't recommend more if you are looking for an homely and caring setting.

We are so happy with the care, support and education given to our little boy.
He is so happy attending and always talks positively about the activities he has done and the things he has learnt.
He has been given some fantastic learning opportunities and the emotional understanding he has gained
during this last year is amazing.
Our second son is joining in September and there is nowhere we’d rather he attend. An outstanding setting that we can’t recommend highly enough.

This preschool has been brilliant for my son, he settled in quickly. They have been understanding and supportive of his difficulties. I'm sad that he hasn't been able to do the whole year there, but I'm so glad he had the opportunity. I would highly recommend Bishop Cornish Pre School. The teachers
are amazing.

My daughter has had a wonderful time here and has enjoyed every minute of her time at the preschool. She was always full of beans going in and coming out. The staff are all incredibly friendly and well organised. Home/school communication has been outstanding. I know that this setting has given my daughter
an excellent foundation to her next steps at the primary school.

Both of my children have attended Bishop Cornish Preschool and I cannot fault the high standard of care they both received. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. If you have any worries/problems they were always very helpful and caring.
The activities planned were always varied, fun and exciting!
They always came home with a smile on their face.
I loved the fact they introduced basic phonics to ease their transition into primary school.
My children loved the outside space especially forest school! Bug hunts, toasting marshmallows with a hot chocolate around the fire was their favourite!
I would 100% recommend this pre-school to any parent!!

My son has attended this preschool for a year now and I have yet to find 1 single fault or anything at all I have not been happy with.
Compared to other nurseries my children have been too, Bishop Cornish is absolutely outstanding and my only regret is not bringing both of my children there sooner.
There are 4 members of staff at Bishop Cornish who my son sees everyday. Unlike other places there is not a big turn around of staff and my son has really got to know each of them which I believe is really important in helping him feel safe and happy at pre school.
Each staff member knows my son very well and I feel very pleased going to work knowing that he is with people who truly care for him who also go above and beyond to make him feel happy and secure
My son's confidence since being in preschool has increased so much, he loves going to preschool each day and I will be sad when he leaves to go to big school. There is not enough words to say all the things I love here.

My son has thoroughly enjoyed his time at preschool, there is a perfect balance of learning and free play, the children have the opportunity to play with their peers and there's plenty of space if they need some quiet time. There's ample outdoor space including climbing equipment and a forest area.
They provide a huge range of activities, singing, dancing, arts and crafts, theatre trips and sports day. My son has been very well cared for and his experience has prepared him well for school.

The pre-school is an excellent springboard into full-time school. The support from specialist early years teachers and a close-knit team create the perfect balance of learning, play and individual wellbeing. The staff have a genuine passion for helping each child achieve their potential and develop
their confidence. The emphasis on outside play, with animals, forest school and a well thought out playground provides a varied and exciting environment for the children. As a busy working parent, I appreciate the common sense approach of the staff and have every confidence in their care for my child. I could not fault the pre-school in any way.

Since joining this preschool my daughter has developed in leaps and bounds. She came from a one to one child care setting and I wasn't sure how she would cope in a busier setting but she has absolutely loved it. She is now a confident individual who loves coming to preschool and seeing the staff and
her friends. The staff are wonderful, caring and supportive and their communication with parents is faultless. The setting itself is laid out well and designed to suit the needs of a preschool with a covered outside space to play in in all weather, which my daughter loves. They also have an amazing time exploring the outside grounds. The learning and play experience that she has had at the preschool has made her more than ready for taking the next step to school.

I have had four children attend Bishop Cornish Preschool, and I cannot fault the care they gave to each child. I would have preferred my children to be with me at all times, but knew I had to get them used to a school environment in preparation for starting school so was extremely nervous about leaving
them with strangers.
I was always made to feel that I could call them as often as I liked, but to be honest, I didn’t need to, as my children always came home so happy that I knew they were in the best hands.
The location of the preschool and the amount of outside space they have is outstanding, and the children loved spending time in the woods and playing outside.
The mix of play and learning was perfect, and they adjust the balance of both to suit each child which is amazing.
I have a 2-year-old and would be devastated if he couldn’t attend there as I think the preschool is above outstanding.

My son, and daughter before that, had a wonderful experience at this preschool. Their days were full of outdoor muddy adventures with goats and alpacas! The facilities and the staff are amazing. They always go the extra mile for your child and provide such an amazing range of experiences. The education
the children receive is also amazing, and they are so happy and content. I have no hesitation in recommending it to everyone.

I started working at Bishop Cornish Preschool in October 2016. I have always worked in child care since I qualified and spent some time as a Deputy and a Manager before I had my children. I decided to take some time off to spend time at home with my two children until they were both in full-time school. I’ve loved getting back into working with children and always knew this was the job I wanted to do.
I’m in preschool every day and have completed my Paediatric First Aid qualification and Food Hygiene. I have also been on a Makaton course which helps support my experience of working with children who need that extra support with speech, language and communication. I have experience in working closely with children who have Special Educational Needs ranging from speech to development.

Job Title: Deputy Preschool Manager

I’m the longest serving member of the team! I’ve been working at the preschool since we opened in September 2009, all the way back when I was a Miss Bliss! I had the pleasure of helping to establish the preschool from the beginning and it’s been a joy to see it grow and develop over the years.
I am obsessed with penguins, the colour yellow and am creative and musical too! I play a range of instruments such as flute, Irish whistles, bass and guitar and love to incorporate these skills into preschool life.
I’ve a real interest and fascination with the emotional well-being of children and teaching children about love and kindness. I enjoy researching and creating resources and activities to help the children understand and manage their emotions in a fun way and to develop the skill of empathy. I have undertaken Emotional First Aid training which was really valuable in supporting my interest and what we do at preschool.
I have a Level 3 NVQ in Children’s Care Learning and Development and am very experienced, working for over 16 years in Early Years. I am Paediatric First Aid Trained, have completed Food Hygiene training and complete regular safeguarding training alongside my colleagues.

Hi, I’m Leanne Elford part of the preschool team, I have worked in the preschool for 7 years now and have loved every minute of it! I have been working in childcare for 22 years with an NVQ level 3 in childcare. I currently cover lunchtime every day in preschool in between my work in the primary school as a teaching assistant and every morning and evening at the Breakfast & Afterschool Club.


Both my children have come through our preschool and carried onto primary school and would never have wanted them to go anywhere else. In my spare time, around family time, I help look after the school animals and you will always find me pottering about with the chickens at the preschool end. Don’t be offended if you hear me call the children chickens as that’s the mother hen in me and you will always be able to spot me in my flip-flops all year round!

Hi! I’m Rachel Nash, the newest member of the Bishop Cornish Pre-school team! I will be joining full time every day so am looking forward to getting to know all the families. I have been in childcare since I began college in 2016 and have loved it. I have my childcare level 3 as well as an early years foundation degree. I have experience in different early years settings; such as pre-school and 1:1 special needs assistant in a primary school. In my spare time I love to bake and going to the beach, all year round even if it’s a bit chilly!
