The Kinderhaus at the German School London is a bilingual kindergarten and preschool for children aged 3 - 6.
The setting is a multicultural place where children and teachers meet and form a community, where they can play and learn collectively as a group and as individuals. Every child brings their own experiences, knowledge and family's cultural background to the group. Children learn from shared experiences that no curriculum can replace.

The philosophy of the Kinderhaus is centred around each child, focusing on their individual interests and needs as well as abilities, strengths and limits. There are both adult-led and child-led activities, with the emphasis on the latter to ensure all activities match the interests and needs of each child.

Free-play is an essential part of everyday life at the Kinderhaus as it is crucial for the holistic development of children. During free-play time children have the opportunity to learn independently, choosing the games and the partners they want to play with or focusing on an activity on their own. The Kinderhaus staff encourage children to be curious and to explore and test their abilities within a safe and secure setting.

There are three particular factors that make the Kinderhaus unique in comparison to most other preschools in London.

Firstly it is bilingual, the general benefits of learning more than one language at an early age are widely documented. Secondly, children continue for another year in Preschool before starting school. This gives children more time to play, to be physically active and to be creative. All of these activities give children at the Kinderhaus a great start to life in terms of their health and wellbeing. Thirdly, the Kinderhaus benefits from a vast outdoor playground and it has a wonderful location between the River Thames and Richmond Park giving children lots of opportunities to explore nature on their doorstep.

Our son loves the Kinderhaus and so did our older son. Both of them settled in easily and found new friends quickly.
In addition to the great facilities (lovely garden, big sports hall, nice rooms with great toys) there are many other positive aspects that made us choose the Kinderhaus. In accordance
with the German education system, children benefit from an additional year in the nursery setting before they start preschool, which allows them to learn in a more playful way and enjoy their childhood.
Groups are bi-lingual and the teachers are incredibly caring. There are plenty of interesting activities throughout the day and afternoon clubs are also available.
The school has been fantastic in regards to dietary requirements too which we really appreciated.
It's just great to see how happy our boys are every day, how much they have developed their knowledge on a broad range of topics and how they have grown in confidence.

My children love to play, paint, do crafts and let their imaginations run wild outside. They can do all of this in Das Kinderhaus, accompanied by loving educators who always have new ideas to support the children and create wonderful childhood memories. As parents, we are always informed about what
our children have experienced and communicate with the Kinderhaus practically via app. Additionally the educators are always available to contact at the drop-off and pick-up and help if there are any concerns or questions. Das Kinderhaus is a place full of joy, creativity, learning, open-mindedness and open for communication, but the most important thing of all, my kids bounce happily in and out every time. Thank you Kinderhaus.

The Kindergarten provides a peaceful and a happy learning environment for the little ones, where they can enjoy independent development in a very social setting. The school premises are very well located, just next to primary and secondary school but on a successfully segregated ground. This enables
use of wider school facilities as necessary. The nursery provides an exciting learning journey, allowing the children experience a diverse set of topics. One very strong aspect is the bilingual approach, where the children are taught in both German and English. This is supported by the outstanding teaching staff, which are very professional in their job, and very caring in their approach to the kids. The teachers are proactive in providing feedback via a very well thought and implemented, easy-to-use mobile app, and the management is very responsive in all kinds of queries and they are very happy to go the extra mile to achieve a satisfactory solution. I can't recommend this nursery enough.

We are very happy at this setting. My son started in their kindergarten and went there for three happy years, and now attends their pre-school. The teaching staff are extremely professional, warm, caring people, working together with the parents and families, they also do fantastic topics and projects
where the children learn a lot. The rooms are beautiful also. We are also very much looking forward to sending our youngest daughter to their kindergarten this September. The school has a lovely community of families and friends. We couldn’t recommend it enough!

We are extremely happy with the DSL Kindergarten, both of our children have attended (our 4-year-old daughter is currently there and our 6-year-old was in preschool (part of the kindergarten and is now in first grade at the DSL)). Our daughter looks forward to going every day and comes home with exciting
tales of what she did and played, which range from broad educational and social activities. She adores her teachers who are loving and attentive and went out of their way to help her acclimatize when she first started; she starts most days with a big hug for her teachers. The kindergarten is very international, inclusive, safe and warm. We felt instantly part of the community and parents arrange play dates and activities outside of school. We have found communication easy and effective with the teachers and with the manager, and have always had our questions immediately addressed. The extended afternoon program and lunch are great for working parents. Fantastic response to the pandemic.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.2 (8.203) out of 10 for Das Kinderhaus at the German School London is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.2 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

The Average Rating of 5.000 for Das Kinderhaus at the German School London is calculated as follows: ( (24 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.203 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Das Kinderhaus at the German School London is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 129 number of registered child places is 25.8. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 25.8 = 0.078

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
