The nursery is located in the grounds of Wootey Infant School.

The children can enjoy the use of the school grounds and be part of the Wootey family. First Friends works in partnership with local schools to ensure easy transition.

The nursery environment has quality resources to ensure children have constant access to a variety of activities.

Children can free flow from indoors to outside to access their play. The qualified and experienced staff team support children in their play, learning and development. The large room is divided into two to accommodate the different age groups, which include;

- The Explorers: the toddler room (from 18 months)
- The Inventors: the pre-school room

Extra Activities
Forest School sessions:

The ethos of the Forest School sessions is to give children the time and space to develop skills, interest and understanding through a range of activities which provide practical, hands-on experiences in a natural environment.

Keeping you in the know

The nursery has a 'closed' group Facebook page (Family of First Friends Alton) where the team post about daily activities. They also have a 'General' Facebook page (First Friends Day Nurseries) where you can find out about what they are doing on a more general level.

You will be given access to an online portal, where they post your child's daily updates and progress. You can speak to your child's key worker at drop-off and pick-ups every day. The nursery sends you a bi-monthly newsletter and annual satisfaction survey.

I'm happy with the overall care and interest shown to my son. He has become more independent and is expressing himself more clearly as well. He has made friends and is quite comfortable with all staff members. Overall good experience!

First friends have been amazing from the day my son started nearly 2 years ago. He has a shy nature, and they have always gently encouraged and supported him. We are so thrilled with First Friends Day Nursery - Wootey. Our little boy settled in within a couple of weeks with the support of the wonderful staff and now comes home chatting about what a great day he's had. All of the staff are friendly, professional and caring, they communicate well with us, and
we have great confidence in them and their care of our son.
We love the range of activities that our little one gets to take part in and the way that his capability and independence are encouraged. He's learning new skills, and things we're working on at home are encouraged at nursery too. As a bonus, after a year of refusing to nap with his childminder, he's now getting decent naps every nursery day and coming home happy and well-rested.

My grandson had a shaky start to nursery life, finding it hard to adapt to his new routine.
But with the time, care and love shown by all at First Friends, he is now loving nursery life, looking forward to going to his sessions and telling us all about his day and what he's been doing.

I honestly don't think I could put it into words just how happy we are with First Friends Alton. Each person has been incredible in the care of my little one, such a personable experience and I've seen him go from strength to strength since being there. Myself and my other half just love it here and

My son thrives at First Friends Nursery. He has enjoyed all their Christmas activities and the staff have still fully encouraged his interests and learning goals with other wonderful games and activities alongside the festivities.

My daughters have both thrived during their time here. The staff are incredibly attentive, caring, and dedicated to the well-being and development of each child. They create a warm and welcoming atmosphere that has allowed my daughters to feel safe, comfortable, and eager to learn.
The curriculum is
thoughtfully designed to stimulate cognitive, physical, and social-emotional growth. They facilitate a wide range of engaging activities, including, creative arts, imaginative play and outdoor exploration. This well-rounded approach has fostered their curiosity, problem-solving skills, and overall confidence.
I am particularly impressed by the individualised attention and support provided to each child. The staff are skilled at identifying and catering to the unique needs and learning styles of the children, ensuring that every child is given the opportunity to thrive.

I have found the nursery to be excellent. My daughter was very anxious when she started in April 2024 at the age of 1 and I was worried she would not settle but the staff have been very supportive and she is now very happy and confident within the nursery environment and she loves her time there.
She
is developing well in all areas especially with her speech. The nursery are supporting her with a second language and her key worker has even taken the initiative to keep an Italian phase book to hand!
We are very happy with First Friends and would not hesitate to recommend them to fellow parents!

Our baby has settled in so well. We were worried about him being so clingy to us but the staff have made him so welcome, sometimes he has a tantrum because he doesn't want to go home. We have seen him grow in confidence and he's always learning new things.

Amazing! After a long jaunt trying to find the right nursery for our daughter in the area with all the aspects we wanted, we are absolutely over the moon with our choice. Right from the outset of our first visit, she settled in, playing with toys and the other children. My husband and I had "the feeling"
that this was definitely the right place for her and we haven't looked back since. She was unsettled for the first couple of months and the staff handled it with care and due diligence towards us and our daughter which made the transition period for us all much easier. The food they provide is exactly what we wished for with a wide range and variety and healthy. The activities they do are so vast and always different which is again great! The feedback we get is exactly what we wish for and as for the staff, they are always friendly and welcoming which we love. She always goes in and out super happy with a smile. Thank you all at Alton First Friends Nursery!

Amazing nursery/preschool! My daughter loves everyone there and thoroughly enjoys the variety of activities each day. My son absolutely loves his time as an Inventor at First Friends Day Nursery-Wootey. He's always happy to go off in the morning, full of excitement about what he will be doing that day and when I pick him up in the evenings that excitement is still there with him waiting to tell me what he has done
through the day.
The staff are always very friendly and caring and update me on his day and what's going on in the nursery and the meals they provide always seem to be a hit with him as he always likes to talk about what he had for breakfast, lunch and snacks.

Both children started nursery in September. They have settled in really well thanks to the lovely warm welcoming staff. Such a lovely happy bubbly atmosphere, all the staff are welcoming and chatty always smiling always greeting you with lots of energy. Really happy with the activities they have for
the children, always learning and doing something each day a different activity which is always fun and age-appropriate. My two children have learnt things and routines in a small amount of time they use sign language when singing and saying certain words. They have picked up so much in such a short amount of time because of the caring patient staff who go above and beyond. It is a beautiful nursery with a lovely garden, being outdoors and making sure children get plenty of fresh air in all weather, which was important to us. Nothing is too much trouble.

We initially chose this nursery for our daughter as we liked how much freedom the children had to venture into the outdoor area as and when they liked.
We get daily feedback and our daughter has really grown in confidence with the help and encouragement of the staff and her key workers. She happily
marches herself into nursery each morning.
The nursery and staff have exceeded our expectations.

This is just the most wonderful nursery. Our daughter has really thrived here and she has made lots of lovely friends. The staff are the best team you could have caring for your children and I couldn't recommend them enough. Despite their being a nursery a 5 minute walk from our front door; We travel
from Basingstoke to Alton so our daughter can attend this nursery because she just loves it so much, we have absolutely no regrets about doing this.
The team are beyond brilliant with the children and the staff are truly wonderful. It's clear to see what a great job the manager is doing by how happy the staff and the children are. Our daughter regularly comes home and mentions how much Wayne has made her laugh which really is so lovely to hear!
Honestly couldn't recommend the nursery enough, if you're not sure then you will be after a tour. It's such a great nursery and I can't put into words how great it's been for our daughter.

The team at First Friends Day Nursery - Wootey are amazing! They have truly gone above and beyond in supporting our daughter.
They really do have the best interest of each child at heart and they form such amazing bonds with the children.
Our daughter loves it and has come on massively since starting!
She has loved making new friends and fond memories, she’s so happy there. Would recommend time and time again.

Job Title: Nursery Manager

My name is Jane and I am the manager of First Friends Day Nursery at Wootey, Alton.

I have previously worked as Deputy Manager for a nationwide nursery chain and completed my Level 3 qualification a few years’ ago. I am extremely passionate about SENCo and ensuring every child is provided with equal opportunities. What I love most about my role is seeing the children learn and thrive throughout their journey with us.
