The Granville’s co-ed pre-school welcomes girls and boys aged 3-4, offering an independent education based on rich, immersive experiences and learning through hands on activities, balanced with early literacy and numeracy teaching, in a stimulating environment that encourages curiosity and exploration. It is non-selective and children joining come from a broad range of settings.

In a building specifically designed for the Early Years, the pre-school forms a key part of the wider school, sharing its many facilities, specialist staff and exciting outdoor spaces.

The Pre School offers more than simply child care. It offers a structured yet immersive Early Years educational experience. Young children thrive as they take ownership of their own learning, supported by the routines of the day. This fully prepares them for Reception and the start of their prep school life. Every child learns, no matter their starting point and low staff to pupil ratios ensure that every child flourishes as their bespoke approach begins here.

Qualified, experienced and specialist staff provide a caring, well organised and stimulating atmosphere where children’s natural curiosity is nurtured and the foundations of learning are built.

The Pre School is the perfect setting for children to develop their independence, their imagination, creativity and individual interests. The happiness and well-being of their girls and boys is catered for through a rich variety of play and learning activities in an inspiring and exciting environment.

Learning is not limited to the classroom but extends to the whole school site, which is theirs to explore. They also benefit from the expertise of specialist teachers for Music, PE, Forest School, Ballet, French, Yoga, Swimming and IT.

After Pre-School, boys move on to local independent and state schools and girls move up to Reception at The Granville.

It is an excellent setting with devoted and loving staff. Learning and resources are fabulous and extracurricular activities are well standard. My child is so fascinated with this setting that she doesn't want any holidays from school. We are glad we have the opportunity to be part of this school.

We couldn't be happier with our decision to send our little boy to the preschool classes at The Granville. The staff are just wonderful and our little boy has come on leaps and bounds since joining last September. We are so happy with the overall experience and we couldn't recommend Granville more.

Being new to the area, I chose this preschool for my daughter after seeing how confident all the children came across throughout the school - that’s exactly what I want for my daughter. It has been everything I had hoped for. The staff are fantastic, the community of parents has been welcoming without
being too much, and the preschool includes lots of varied activities like forest school, ballet, and swimming. There’s even a cute school dog. My daughter attends five days a week, 8.30am to 3pm - but a big bonus is that extra hours in after-school care are bookable on very short notice, even on the day. Works great for me as a single mum. As someone who commutes for work, it’s also really convenient that it’s super close to the train station.

School instills strong family values, and kindness and runs a curriculum that covers all facets. We have two girls in the school who are extremely happy, and so are our daughters. Our three-year-old tells us not to pick her up too early!

The Granville's Pre-School is a truly outstanding place to learn. Staff are warm and friendly, the preschool classrooms are colourful and inviting with superb outdoor space and a large playground. My daughter is encouraged to be independent, whilst knowing that her teachers will support her and share
in her interests. She is not yet 3 but is already benefitting from specialist teaching in music and PE. Communication with parents is excellent and we love to see the daily photographs and observations on the Tapestry app. As parents, we couldn't be happier and neither could our daughter.

For us, Kindergarten at Granville became my daughter's favourite place away from home and was an integral part of settling into the local community after leaving London. Staff were always warm and friendly, providing constructive insight into my child's learning potential. We are impressed by the variety
of subjects offered at such a young age, including ballet, French and ICT. My daughter loves the Forest School sessions and often talks about it. She enjoys the school every day and we never had any doubt that she would. Independence and care for others are valued, very pleased with our choice!

Our daughter loves attending kindergarten. She has benefited particularly from the very clear structure and fantastic teaching. Her behaviour can be less than ideal if she is not kept fully engaged, but this has not been a problem at school, where she is fully engaged all day in a variety of activities.
We are told she has even become one of the best helpers in her class!

An outstanding kindergarten where my daughter has benefited from truly dedicated staff who daily, provide a varied and interesting curriculum and a firm foundation for all before ‘reception’’. Their enthusiasm is infectious, and my daughter runs in, in the morning and then out with a smiling face in
the afternoon with tales of the activities of the day. This is certainly not just ‘another nursery’’, and deserves the high regard with which it is held by the many whose children go on and progress through the school.

My daughter has been attending The Granville School since January 2020. I have been thoroughly impressed by the provision offered by the preschool. My daughter wakes up excited to go to preschool and what she is going to learn during the day. The facilities are amazing with a forest school on-site,
as well as a swimming pool for use in the summer term. There are specialist teachers for I.C.T, French and PE. The early year's teachers have years of experience and support the children fully in order for them to be thoroughly prepared for school.

All three of my daughters have attended the kindergarten at The Granville School with my youngest now in reception. They all loved their kindergarten years. The staff are exceptionally experienced and professional, quickly understanding the quirks and needs of every child under their care. My girls
have thoroughly enjoyed the specialist IT, French and music lessons available to them, even at such a young age. An emphasis on outdoor learning and learning about the world around them through observing the hatching of chicken eggs, planting of seeds, etc, is a delight. All in all, The Granville kindergarten provides a fabulous learning foundation for children to build on as they move into reception and further through the school years.

Both our girls have absolutely adored their kindergarten experience at Granville. It really is the teacher who makes the difference. So rarely fo you see children running away from their parents and towards their teachers, but that is what happened every day at drop-off. During the pick-up, all the
children have smiles on their faces. Some of the "hardware" issues, such as serving hot meals outside the meal hall have also been resolved, and we trust that future improvements will be made over time for incoming classes.

A truly outstanding nursery and preschool. Our daughter joined The Granville School in January 2020, and she is so happy going there every day. The school is very much focused on the whole child's development. The teachers are all extremely experienced, and the environment is exceptionally warm, caring
and stimulating. I recommend it whole-heartedly. Our daughter’s previous nursery was good, but The Granville School is truly exceptional.

Both our daughters have attended The Granville’s kindergarten - our eldest is now in reception, and our youngest is in her first year of kindergarten.

We have always been absolutely delighted with the care, learning environment, teachers and the progress that our children have made. It is a truly

nurturing environment, where the girls have developed confidence and skills. I have always felt that the teachers understood their learning, social and development needs, and have tailored their learning to their specific requirements.

The school is very good at communicating with us about the girls’ learning. We are regularly updated via the app platform, and there is a constant dialogue between teacher and parents. There are lots of enriching activities with specialist teachers - our girls love their swimming, PE, IT and music lessons.

Most of all, I feel that the teachers are real experts, care deeply about the children in their care, and know the girls really, really well.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.308)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.308) out of 10 for The Granville School is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.958 for The Granville School is calculated as follows: ( (69 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.958

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.35 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Granville School is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 number of registered child places is 8. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.75

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Having studied early years and education at East Anglia and Canterbury Christchurch universities, I have qualified teacher status and gained 29 years experience with children aged 2 to 11 years in both the state and private sector. During this time I have led Early Years, History, Phonics and Curriculum Development and been on a senior leadership team. I am currently training to be a Forest School Leader and have regular visits to our school woods.
The majority of my experience is with Early Years, where I trained and am passionate about speech and language, alongside phonics and mathematics. I value the outdoor environment and how this can enhance an overall child's wellbeing and personal growth. I believe that a happy child will learn, that emotional wellbeing is paramount and that by working with parents we can achieve and learn with our children and they can thrive and succeed.

I have a Health and Social Care Level 3 qualification. This spiked my interest in care and education and after much volunteering in early years settings led me to achieve a further Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification. following this I am currently studying my early Years practitioner status. Alongside this I am studying the Mental Health in Education qualification to support all those I work with. For over a decade I have fulfilled the roles of a Nanny and worked in educational establishments with children from 8 months to 16 years.
I believe that high quality Early Years provision is the basis of high quality education and am thrilled by the small steps in learning feeling enormous to our youngest children. My favourite part of any day is spent immersed in fabulous stories that capture their imagination and fuel their language and learning.
