Our son has been with the nursery since day 1, and despite countless ups and downs, he has been mostly happy since then. The facilities are ideal for him, and us as parents, and the staff show genuine passion and enthusiasm. A more settled management team of late has made a positive difference. It would
be nice to see more front-foot communication in staffing changes within his room, less after the fact.

My 2 year old has been here since the nursery opened last year - the new manager is fantastic and has ironed out initial opening issues.
We decided to stick with the nursery during the recruitment issues mentioned below due to the incredible room leader and other staff in the toddler room - my son
is very happy here and enjoys a hugely varied range of activities both indoor and out. The nursery now has a truly family feel with minimal staff turnover.

The nursery has taken some great steps towards improving safety at the nursery with a huge improvement in procedural matters. I think this has given the staff more confidence in working at the location. I have been impressed by the manager and those employed at the nursery to improve the standards but
saddened that they (in my humble opinion) did not receive the support earlier. I will admit to having no faith in the strategic management of the nursery group but this does not reflect on the staff based at the nursery.
On an individual basis, our child loves going to the nursery and has shown some great signs of development which we can directly attribute to the nursery.
There will always be things that can improve and if the small things can be improved then this nursery will have our support for the foreseeable.

We, unfortunately, had to take the hard decision to pull our son out in December 2022 for his own safety. Ofsted inspected Fennies Raynes Park in October 2022 - due to concerns raised to them by parents and deemed it inadequate - the lowest rating possible - because of safeguarding concerns and multiple
other issues.
Since we were there (March 2022 - Dec 2022) there were a number of concerning issues:-
1. Children turned away at the door - due to staff shortages - on over 20 occasions.
2. Babies room was shut for almost two weeks - due to staffing issues. Parents left with no childcare options.
3. Multiple allegations from parents regarding concerning behaviour of staff towards children.
In their communication to parents, management tried to brush serious failures in safeguarding processes as simple communication mishaps. The poor interaction between staff and children as "some staff were acting like deer in the headlights" during the inspection. No accountability taken, not a safe place.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.2 (8.227) out of 10 for Fennies Raynes Park, Amity Grove is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.6 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.646 for Fennies Raynes Park, Amity Grove is calculated as follows: ( (33 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.646

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.581 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Fennies Raynes Park, Amity Grove is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 97 number of registered child places is 19.4. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 19.4 = 0.206

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
