Sunflowers Nursery is located within the grounds at Staines Prep. It is a term time only Nursery and accepts children from the term in which they turn 3-years-old. Children enjoy a wide range of adult focused activities designed to motivate and inspire, participating in phonic activities, maths games, play dough and cooking activities to name a few.

A bright, airy environment full of exciting resources and purposeful furniture provides the ideal space for their youngest pupils to explore. Your child will have access to an outdoor learning environment, which is an extension of Sunflower's indoor classroom and is planned in the same way ensuring all learning opportunities are covered.

Your child will also have access to the whole of the Staines Prep School's resources, such as the Digital Learning Suite, Music Room, sports facilities and school Library where staff encourage parents to join them for a story. They will visit the Environmental Area across the week and participate in Forest School activities, have music sessions with their specialist music teacher and in the summer term P.E. sessions with their sports teachers.

They will encourage your child to engage in physical activity every day, such as climbing, football, riding the bikes and scooters or chasing feathers on a windy day, and to be as independent as possible, from putting their coat on, toileting, putting their wellies on to then helping their friends. Activities such as obstacle course building, where pupils work collaboratively and problem solve, help to reinforce this.

Learning is not confined to the school day and therefore parental involvement is key. They will share your child’s learning through Seesaw where both staff and parents can document every step of a child’s learning and development.

My daughter loves Sunflower Nursery. She joined in September 2022 and since then she has enjoyed every hour in the Nursery. She loves Forest Day, PE and Music class. All over I would say we have made the best decision to put her in Sunflower Nursery as each day she comes back home with new songs, new
ideas, new stories and new skills.

My son absolutely loves Sunflower Nursery. He's been there for over a year now and adores all his teachers and classmates.
We have seen huge developments in his behaviour and learning, and also conduct.
We love the community the nursery and school have to offer.

Our son joined Sunflowers once he turned 3, having previously been cared for by a lovely childminder, but he was ready to step up his learning and socialising. He has blossomed under the care and support of the SPS Nursery staff! They have very small groups, a multitude of activities indoors and outside,
gentle learning, parents are kept closely involved. Each week he comes back with new skills, new ideas, new songs and experiences like trips to the farm, cinema, Bollywood dancing. He’s really happy there and we hope to keep him in SPS long term.

My son has been at Sunflowers Nursery since Sept 2022 and is now in 'Petals', the class before they start reception. The standard of the nursery is absolutely incredible, there is nowhere better in the area to send your children. All the children are so happy and well cared for, the meal options are
delicious, and the facilities are fantastic. There is a lot of outdoor space and the children take part in PE lessons, cooking, music classes, forest school and visit the school library, and pictures of the children's activities are shared with parents so you can see what they have been up to. Our entire family are absolutely delighted with SPS Sunflowers Nursery and I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone!

My eldest child went through two years at the nursery, and now my youngest child is in his last term there. I have always been very happy with everything about it. The facilities and provisions are great, the staff are so good at what they do, and the children have loved their time there. They have
really blossomed both academically and in self-confidence.

We are very grateful for the wonderful care and attention our child receives at SPS Nursery. We have been consistently impressed by the level of professionalism and support from everyone, from teachers to admin staff. We also appreciate the regular updates we receive about our daughter's progress. Overall,
our daughter truly enjoys the nursery, all fun and educational activities, the delicious food prepared onsite, and the friendship she is building not only with other children but also with SPS staff. Thank you, SPS so much for all you do!

I absolutely love SPS Sunflower Pre-School Nursery, all of my children have attended the school and I have to say that this is an excellent nursery. The teachers are amazing with their knowledge of the children and the early years foundation stage is implemented above and beyond.
The children learn
excellent skills and the teachers track their development in every area! Amazing school and amazing staff. The hours are perfect and communication from the school is always open! We will never find another nursery like this, as we’ve attended a few settings where my child was unsettled. He has made friends and the staff support him so much! They have excellent resources and very creative activities set for the children. Great affordable fees which are so much better than day nurseries!

My son has attended the nursery for over a year and I have noticed a huge improvement in his confidence. I also felt his communication and language rapidly improved after joining this nursery. The staff are really caring and know my son well. The activities and environment is wonderful, the staff have
organised lovely events to involve parents (for example, stay and play sessions, Mother's Day, Father's Day, spring festival assembly and a Christmas production). I also noticed from the previous year there was a good transition process and preparation for nursery children going into reception. The nursery are teaching numeracy and phonics to prepare the children for reception which is positive and my son enjoys this.

Excellent nursery in and around the area.
My child was supported very well in all areas.
The structure of their day was clearly planned and executed very well, with lots and indoor and outdoor activities.
They have a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere.

We would highly recommend SPS Sunflowers nursery. We have been part of the school since our elder son had joined the nursery in 2017 and has continued here.
We currently (2021) have my younger child attending the nursery full time, and he absolutely loves going in every single day with a big smile!
The nursery teachers are fantastic, and everything has gone smoothly for both our children. The transition between the nursery and reception is pretty much smooth sailing. We are always updated with lovely photos of daily activities, forest school, cooking, music and much more. The nursery has maintained a very high standard of cleanliness during Covid.
Both our children have bloomed here with their speech, manners, independence, confidence, and most of all, their happiness to be part of the nursery and school.

My son went to this nursery from September 2019 to July 2021. It offered everything I had wished for in a nursery. The educational facilities it offered were fantastic and had a lot to offer. He built a very good relationship with the staff and with us as parents, which made the process very enjoyable
and exciting. We got to see regular updates and the different activities that were offered. We loved seeing the photos that were sent to us whilst doing different activities together with the annual photo sessions of my child. Our son blossomed very well whilst in the nursery, and the transition period to reception made it very straightforward and enjoyable.
I would definitely recommend this to anybody who is looking for a nursery for his or her child.

We could not be happier with this nursery - it was everything we hoped for. Our son started during 2020, and we felt so safe and genuinely feel he was minimally affected by the pandemic. The facilities and educational range are fantastic, and the relationships forged with staff by our son and ourselves
is very reassuring and made the process very enjoyable. We love seeing the regular photo updates and the huge variety of activities they get up to. Forest school was his favourite, and having access to the facilities of the main school makes it a lot more equipped than most nurseries. Our son just blossomed within weeks, and I have to say his general manners and good habits were noticed by family and friends.
He has recently started reception there, and we barely noticed the transition as he was already so familiar with the school. He is having a wonderful time!
I have two more children, who will also be going here, and they just can't wait, nor can we!

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.790)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.790) out of 10 for Sunflowers Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.990 for Sunflowers Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (95 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.99

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Sunflowers Nursery is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 number of registered child places is 8, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
