Hertford Barns provides a warm and welcoming environment where each child's individual needs are prioritised and their interests nurtured.

The nursery is located in the quiet countryside against the beautiful backdrop of the Hatfield Estate. The purpose-built facilities benefit from the calm and safe green spaces surrounding it, offering plenty of fresh air.

Children benefit from age-appropriate gardens which furthers their social, emotional and physical development.

The highly trained staff support each child to reach their potential with activities designed in line with EYFS principles.

Hertford Barns also offer the extracurricular activity of Tiny Mites for under twos and Yoga Mites for over twos on alternate Tuesdays.

The Barn has truly been a blessing for my family. While both of my children have attended this franchise, my experience at 'The Barn' surpasses all others. The staff's dedication is truly phenomenal. My daughter, who joined at 9 months, not only feels at home but eagerly opens her arms to the caring
staff. The nurturing environment and exceptional care provided by the team at 'The Barn' make it the best choice for any parent seeking a top-notch nursery experience. The setting is immaculate, with a no-shoes policy that stands out from other nurseries in WGC. The beautiful garden and spacious, traffic-free surroundings provide a breath of fresh air for the kids, enhancing their overall experience. Looking forward to the next few years.

I could not be happier with the service of the staff and the facilities offered to my two children at Hertford Barns. The outdoor space, calm atmosphere and friendliness of all of the staff are the perfect combination for children to flourish in their own unique way.
There is a culture of openness
and support, which has been incredibly helpful for my child who needed extra support in certain areas. The proactive and one-to-one care has made the nursery invaluable to our child’s development.
I would highly recommend Hertford Barns for people looking for their children to be exposed to a nurturing, caring and nature-based development experience.

My child has been attending Hertford Barnes Nursery for nearly two years now. It has been a delight from the beginning. All the staff are very kind and nurturing. He particularly loves the outdoor space which is large and has different toys/activities. I receive updates on the app where I can see he
is having a great time, this is very reassuring. I would highly recommend this nursery to anyone.

Our son has been attending since spring 2023 and we’ve been so impressed with the care he’s received. The staff are kind, enthusiastic and caring, taking great care to build strong bonds with the children and build a safe and welcoming environment for them with lots of activities. Our son struggled
a lot with separation around the time of starting, but the team were fantastic at helping him get settled and easing him into things while giving him lots of support. He’s so much more confident now and loves getting involved in crafts and outdoor fun. The spaces are fantastic, you can tell a lot of thought and care has gone into the rooms and gardens, and there’s a great range of activities, with staff always making sure to find objects or tasks that match children’s interests. Communication is great too and staff are always quick to respond to questions and keep us updated with news and important info. Overall a lovely nursery where children are supported, encouraged & well looked after.

Hertford Barns is an amazing nursery. Our son has been attending now for just over a year. He has found it hard to settle in the mornings but when I pick him up he has always had the best day and his development is noticeable since attending. The staff are incredibly kind and caring and always are so
helpful. The building itself is a great set up with each room having access to a garden with real grass. The nursery always offers a range of nutritious meals and cater to dietary requirements. Overall could not recommend Hertford Barns enough to any family.

I couldn’t be happier with how my son has settled into the Preschool at Hertford Barns! He’s been with the nursery for just over a month and there’s been a transformation in the way he talks about nursery and engages when we ask him about his day. The staff are incredibly attentive, knowledgeable and
kind, and the setting is really picturesque. It’s the perfect location for enquiring minds! I’d recommend this nursery wholeheartedly!!

Our daughter has been attending Hertford Barns for the past 9 months. During this time we have been so impressed by the consistently kind, enthusiastic and compassionate care the staff have shown towards our daughter (and indeed towards us parents, when needed!) We have felt thoroughly supported from
the settling-in process to the current day and have always been helped to feel that no question is too small. Staff are warm, personable and good communicators. Our daughter has formed close and secure bonds with her key people. It’s also lovely to see the effort staff from other areas make to know each child’s name. The atmosphere at Hertford Barns feels positive and safe. The environment itself is beautiful and it’s plain to see how children thrive here.

We are so thankful to have got our son a place at Hertford Barns. The team have been exceptional since he started and his development both socially and with feeding has been as a result of the hard work the team commits to the children.
We really feel supported as parents by the team and it’s obvious
how much our son loves being at Hertford Barns. I couldn’t imagine sending him to a different nursery and we always see such a difference in his speech and interaction on the days he has been there!

Reall lovely nursery. Children actually running around outside in an expansive playground and not bloating indoors. Good sensible food and top quality staff. Right balance of control and freedom and fun and early learning. Also a very good atmosphere in this rural location.

We were very happy to enrol our son at Hertford Barn Nursery for the duration of one year. Even if he was only attending one day a week, we were able to see how much he’s learned, developed and grown in so many different ways from being there.

Great nursery with welcoming, caring and experienced staff. I always feel confident leaving my child in their capable hand and know he has a great experience there. The nursery has a great atmosphere, learning environment and lots of space for the children to run around and explore. The space always
looks interesting, and different each day and sparks the imaginations of those attending. The outdoor space is a great asset and used all year round which we love. The staff get to know each child and their individual needs and provides regular parent feedback and progress which we really appreciate. We have never had to raise any issues or concerns and feel that if we did it would be dealt with quickly and professionally.

My son has been attending Hertford Barns since August 2022 and has thrived over the last year or so. His development and knowledge have really improved since joining the nursery and progressing through the various stages/rooms. The team at Hertford Barns could not do enough for the children and are
always supportive if you have any issues. The nursery itself is in a beautiful quiet countryside location and has amazing facilities. The children are outside exploring every day and they even experienced the sheep and lambs in the fields next door this year. My son gets to try all sorts of food that he wouldn’t necessarily get at home which he loves.
I would recommend Hertford Barns in an instant to anyone looking for a nursery in the area.

Hertford Barns is a warm and inviting day nursery packed full of learning opportunities. The location is beautiful and very peaceful! My son loved going to this nursery! The staff are friendly but also professional.
Four members of staff in particular were always supportive and helping my son! I definitely

Delighted with the care my daughter receives at Hertford Barns. The staff are all amazing, friendly, and want the best for your child. It’s been amazing to see my child develop new skills learned at nursery and can see what they’ve been up to in the weekly newsletter with lots of useful tips added too.
The play areas are so cute with lots of different stations to encourage playing and learning. The outside play area has lots of stuff for the kids to do and also has canopies for shade when it’s sunny.
Would love for there to be more updates of my child in the app for purely selfish reasons, but equally I’d rather the staff be spending more quality time with my child than constantly updating the app.
The space is just beautiful and feels really safe in the countryside away from main busy roads, as well as it being easy to park.

My daughter has been attending Hertford Barns for over a year now and she has really settled in well! The staff are very friendly and helpful, I feel happy knowing she is being cared for in such a great environment and enjoy reading the updates on the online portal. The nursey is very clean and has
great outdoor activities, my daughter in particular enjoys the mass of outdoor space, including water play and sand play. The management staff are very helpful and also respond quickly to any queries. I would highly recommend Hertford Barns.

We’ve been very happy with our experience at Hertford Barns so far. All staff we’ve met have been kind and caring towards our daughter and she happily goes into nursery each day. The food seems lovely and nutritious, they’ve been accommodating in fitting around our daughter's routine and the staff take
their time telling us all about our daughter's day when we pick her up, we’ve been very pleased and would recommend it.

Hertford Barns is a beautiful nursery. It is new, and clean, has excellent resources and a wonderful outdoor area that is far bigger than other nurseries I have seen. Their nursery has been excellent in their care of our child's allergy care plan which we have every confidence in being managed correctly.
Any queries that I have are addressed incredibly quickly by management. We appreciate being able to read reviews of our child's progress and whilst on occasions this information has been slow to be uploaded to the app, it does eventually go on there. The staff are incredibly caring and are able to give thorough handovers upon collection and it is wonderful to hear about all the innovative activities they get up to during the day. The practitioners and management have really helped us to feel at ease with the transition from having a nanny to going to nursery.

Jenny Pratt

Job Title: Nursery Manager

Joined: 2008

Jenny is the Manager of the award-winning Hertford Barns Day Nursery and has a wealth of experience, having worked in the Early Years sector for 17 years. Jenny has numerous qualifications, including a Level 2, 3 and 4 in Childcare and has worked at Childbase 15 years.


What is your favourite feature of Hertford Barns?
My favourite feature is the beautiful setting of our nursery, we benefit from such fantastic outdoor space and our rooms are beautiful yet functional for an Early Years setting.


What are you most proud of about your nursery/team?
I am so proud of my staff team and their ability to build strong bonds with our families and children, the nurture and care they give their children is outstanding. We are also a growing nursery so having the ability to be able to adapt to all the changes has been key to building our successes.
