At the YMCA Nursery you will find a vibrant and nurturing atmosphere, with spacious rooms that all have access to large outdoor areas. It's a place where every child's unique potential is embraced and celebrated with an ethos that revolves around fostering a sense of wonder and curiosity,

The concept of self-led play is cherished, allowing children to take the reins of their own learning journey. Creativity, problem-solving and independence flourish within this nurturing environment, guided by a dedicated team who inspire, support and facilitate these moments of discovery.

Children are encouraged to explore and connect with nature, and commitment to outdoor play, recognising that fresh air is an essential ingredient for healthy development.

With a dedicated chef the nursery kitchen meals are prepared daily using locally sourced seasonable ingredients. Menus rotate over eleven days, which means children that only come for one day a week will still see the full range of meals served in the nursery.

YMCA Nursery believe that making choices about food is important and children love to decide what they’d like for lunch each day. Every morning children choose a picture from the two meals served that day which has meant that that even fussy eaters are often excited to try and enjoy new things.

There are a wide range of additional enriching experiences that are also available at the YMCA Community & Activity Village. Children will enjoy tailored sessions in the dance studio, the on-site gym, climbing centre, explore nature and games outdoors, as well as time on the learn-to-ride cycling facility.

With an on-site Café and many other facilities at the YMCA Village, visiting the Nursery for a tour is encouraged.

The YMCA Nursery reception has restricted access with additional security required to enter beyond reception to all the rooms and the outdoor spaces.

It’s always daunting when your child starts at nursery but the YMCA has made our experience so positive - we couldn’t be happier that we sent our little girl here. The staff are friendly, informative and professional. We know that when we send our daughter here, she is well looked after and happy. As
soon as we drop her off, she wants to go and play and when we pick her up, we see how happy she is. It’s lovely to go to the room our daughter is in to collect her and have a quick chat with her key worker at the end of the day.
The app is a great communication tool to get updates during the day but the manager and deputy manager are also happy to discuss things in person.
Our daughter is in the babies' room and we really like getting an overview at the end of the day with photos of the children doing various fun activities.
The facilities are amazing - spacious, bright and well-equipped. The fees are very reasonable and we love that we get a choice of meals for lunch each day.

I've been waiting to get the chance to leave a review of the nursery here, as I can't say enough good things about it! Our daughter had not been to any formal childcare until just before age two, so we were naturally more than a bit apprehensive about how she would settle. Just half a term later, she
skips into the nursery, asks when she will see her room staff and friends on her days at home and is never in a rush to leave when we pick her up. I don't think you need to know much more than that! Also, the meals are great; they have the balance right between good, hearty food and meals that will appeal to the children. The facilities are excellent, and they get to do lots of different activities to mix up their days. But the main thing is the staff; they are a truly brilliant bunch, and we are more than happy to leave our daughter in their care.

I was very apprehensive about signing my children up to a new nursery without any history, however, it has turned out to be a great decision. I have two children that have attended full time for over a year and my children have really grown into great characters whilst also improving their social skills.
Everyday my children run into the nursery with excitement and I struggle getting them to leave! They love all the staff who are very attentive to their needs and they regularly feedback to the parents which is very reassuring. Due to the facilities the YMCA have the activities they do with the children are exceptional whether it’s dancing or multi sports both children love it. Each day the children are fed well with natural foods whilst also giving them a choice of meal allowing parents to know the children are getting a nutritious meal whilst also getting a meal the children enjoy. I can’t recommend YMCA nursery highly enough!

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.413)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.413) out of 10 for YMCA Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 5.000 for YMCA Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (36 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.413 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for YMCA Nursery is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 92 number of registered child places is 18.4. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 18.4 = 0.163

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
