Charterhouse Square School provides a safe and nurturing environment that serves as a home away from home for girls and boys aged 3 to 11. Children don’t wear a school uniform, address teachers by their first names, and remain with the same classmates from nursery entry through their school years, fostering a strong sense of community.

Located at the heart of London and overlooking the iconic Charterhouse, the school benefits from green spaces where pupils can play. Recent expansions have introduced brand-new classrooms, indoor play areas, a dining area serving delicious hot lunches, innovative learning spaces for science and crafts, and music rooms designed to inspire young talents.

Their early years education offers a topic-based approach, covering a broad range of subjects. Staff support children by planning every activity to encourage exploration and skill development, prioritising a fun learning environment to cultivate happy learners. They lay strong foundations in English and Maths on which pupils build their future academic success, fostering a love of language and reading. Children are encouraged to express themselves with confidence – the single most important attribute Charterhouse Square School aims for children to gain during the Early Years.

Pupils are empowered to embrace challenges and step out of their comfort zones, encouraging them to push themselves to achieve at the very highest levels while developing as confident, self-motivated individuals.

Book and attend a Nursery Viewing Day to experience lessons in action and take a guided tour led by Year 6 pupils. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet the Headteacher and ask any questions you may have.

Please note: Nursery places are randomly allocated by ballot. Registered siblings automatically receive a place, provided their brother or sister attends Charterhouse Square School in their first term of entry.

During his first year in the nursery class, Charter House Square School has provided our son the happiest, safe, and nurturing learning environment, we couldn't have asked for more.
He's learned to read books independently, is confident to write birthday cards, and talks to us enthusiastically about
his days with his friends and teachers, "Momma, did you know the sun is bigger than the earth and gives us lots of energy?!".
The range of lessons and activities is fantastic, not only is there numeracy and phonics, but music, dance, drama, and Spanish! Incredible for 4yo's!
A shout out to all the 'buddies' in the upper years who help the nursery year settle in, thank you, you've been an amazing support and set a brilliant example to them.
Also the fantastic Club House Team, our son loves going after school and during the holidays.
We're so happy with the school and excited for the next year in Reception.

Great school, with a friendly and familiar atmosphere. Our daughter is happy to go to school every day and makes a lot of friends. She also developed a very positive attitude towards learning. So we could not be happier with our school choice.

Although this is technically a nursery due to the age of the children, it is very much part of the school's ethos and learning.
The children are expected to learn, although there is time for play.
There is a strong emphasis on numeracy and phonics. The curriculum and expectations are in keeping
with what you would find in a reception class. I say this at the start so parents have realistic expectations.
That being said, the teachers (there are two and a TA for each class) are very clued up and individualise the learning for my child. They have clearly thought about her strengths and weaknesses and how to help her develop. We are at the end of the first year and my daughter has come on in leaps and bounds. They have pushed her but have been sensitive to her needs. This has provided her with an excellent foundation for the future. It is expensive compared to other nurseries but I think it has been worth the money.
As it is a school, be aware that holiday cover is limited.

My child thrives at Charterhouse Square School Nursery! The teachers are exceptional, nurturing and supportive. The nursery program is academically strong, especially in English and Math, giving children a head start. Most importantly, the school fosters a sense of confidence that allows the children
to blossom. Highly recommend!

We are delighted with Charterhouse Square - it's a school setting and it's amazing how much our daughter has developed in her first year there. The teachers are warm and engaging. They also help with the sometimes challenging transitions of starting school (helping both the children and the parent manage
any difficult emotions). From feeling nervous and upset about going to school in the first half term, our daughter now marches in happily and independently every day and races out every evening eager to share what she's learned. Most importantly, Charterhouse is an incredibly nurturing and caring environment. Every teacher (at all levels) knows every child by name and in the pre-reception, they are buddied with a child in Year 6 which engenders a wonderful spirit of care and community at all levels of the school both staff and pupils. We - and most importantly, our daughter - are very happy at Charterhouse Sq.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.242)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.242) out of 10 for Charterhouse Square School Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.869 for Charterhouse Square School Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (74 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.869

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.373 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Charterhouse Square School Nursery is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 number of registered child places is 10.4. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.4 = 0.673

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
