The Room Leader will have a supervisory role and work as part of a key person team, for the daily needs of children within the nursery.

Main Responsibilities:
1. To ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for all
children placed in the nursery.
2. To supervise and give support to other personnel within the nursery and to work as
part of a team.
3. To formulate and implement the daily routine in your room group.
4. To carry out all duties according to Otters Nursery School Policies and Procedures.

Main Duties:
1. To assist the management in implementing Otters Nursery Schools’ Policies and
Procedures and promote Equal Opportunities throughout the nursery and especially
within the room.
2. To supervise and support all personnel within the room in their day to day duties.
3. To monitor, implement & assist in formulating a programme of activities suitable to
the age range of children in your room that promote the Statutory Framework for the
Early Years Foundation Stage in conjunction with management and other staff.
4. To prepare and maintain children's records in your room, in conjunction with
management and other staff.
5. To liaise with and support all parents and carers.
6. To work alongside parents of special needs children to achieve full integration within
the nursery.
7. To support all staff to engage in good staff team morale especially within the room.
8. To attend periodic staff meetings, parents’ evenings and social events outside
working hours.
9. To assist the management team in implementing training strategy for personnel
within the room.
10. To take part in any training that the Otters Nursery School deems necessary to
maintain your skills at the required level.
11. To undertake certain domestic jobs within the nursery, e.g. preparation of snack,
meals, cleansing of equipment.

12. To work as part of a team to maintain good levels of Health and Safety
within all areas of the nursery.
13. To undertake other duties as may be requested from time to time by the
manager.
14. To work alongside other members of the team to ensure that the philosophy
of Otters Nursery School is fulfilled.
Person Specification:

Essential Qualifications and Training:

  • Relevant Level 3 qualification in Early Years childcare or above
  • Desirable Qualifications and Training:
  • Early Years Professional Status or a Degree in Early Years
  • Leadership and Management
  • Safeguarding Level 3
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene
  • Special Educational Needs Coordinator

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Experience of working with under 2 year olds
  • Proven team leader in a similar environment and able to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • I.C.T. and administration skills including the collation of child development
  • assessment data and analysis
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent understanding of the health and safety requirements of a nursery setting and the implementation of the necessary routines and procedures
  • Experience of self-evaluation processes ensuring the provision is high quality, meeting the needs of the children, families and staff and is safe and secure at all times with the ability to identify possible improvements to policies and procedures
  • Excellent understanding of the practical implementation of the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage
