Purpose of the Role:

  • To support in providing safe, high-quality care and education for babies and children;
  • To support in fulfilling Legal and Statutory requirements within the Early Years; 
  • To support in and contribute to and implement NNCS Policies and Procedures.

 Responsibilities of the Apprentice Nursery Nurse

To contribute as a team member in planning appropriate experiences and opportunities to meet each child’s needs and support them in progressing towards the Early Learning Goals (ELG). To ensure that all relevant areas are included and to monitor the effectiveness of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

To be responsible for providing high-quality care and learning. To create an environment that stimulates, inspires and enthuses children and to ensure that ratios are in keeping with Ofsted requirements to support children’s development in early years education and aim to implement best practice.

To support staff team in:

  1. assessment of children’s learning and development in relation to EYFS;
  2. implementing systems of observation;
  3. carrying out assessment and recording children’s progress;
  4. ensuring that planning is informed by each child’s individual learning needs and interests;
  5. to contribute and have shared responsibility in ensuring the physical environment is clean, and safe in line with risk assessments, policy and procedures.

To work alongside qualified staff in implement the key worker system and to be responsible for monitoring the quality of care and learning; to recognise own training needs and attend relevant statutory training as identified by manager/deputy manager.

To work alongside qualified staff ensure that all required records are accurately maintained in accordance with NNCS Ltd policy documentation.

To work with management structure to ensure that all statutory legal requirements are met.

To contribute as a team member in developing partnerships with parents/carers, sharing information about children’s progress/development and ways in which can be supported.

To contribute as a team member in providing a safe, stimulating environment for children, parents, carers, visitors and work colleagues. To work with the management to ensure all safety procedures are adhered to, and that all necessary risk assessments are carried out. To ensure that robust hygiene standards are maintained.

To contribute as a team member in creating a warm, welcoming and inclusive ethos where all individuals (parents, staff and children) know that they are accepted and valued. To contribute as a team member in challenging all forms of discrimination and actively removing barriers to participation.

To take responsibility for ensuring that  induction training is completed

To contribute  to supervision and appraisals

To be able to work the full sessions as agreed, including setting up, tidying away, and planning and record keeping.

To adhere to and implement the Safeguarding Policy and Procedures. To liaise, as appropriate, with other professionals.

To take responsibility for your own continued personal and professional development.

To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the management structure, in accordance with the settings business plan/objectives.

To implement any recommendations made following regulatory inspections.

To liaise with the management committee, OFSTED services and other professionals as necessary and ensure that all legal and statutory requirements are implemented, and to provide reports as required.

To take responsibility for implementing the quality improvement systems including auditing provision, completing SEF (OFSTED evaluation form) and devising and implementing the setting improvement plan.

To be reflective within your role, accepting and embracing of constructive criticism within your role in support of nursery standards and procedures

To ensure that you stay within the safe remit of your role and responsibilities at all times

Apprentice Nursery Nurse - Person Specification

 Essential Criteria:

  • Paediatric First Aid Certificate.
  • Safeguarding Training Certificate
  • Food & Hygiene Certificate
  • Ability to demonstrate interest in planning and implement a ELG and EYFS curriculum, taking into account the SEND code of practice, Safeguarding procedures and Equal opportunities considerations.
  • Demonstrate a basic awareness of current legislation relevant to EYFS.
  • Basic ability to work with parents and families to encourage their involvement.
  • Basic  understanding of children’s needs (Nature + Nurture)
  • Show interest in understanding of EYFS
  • Ability to be team player
  • Commitment to equal opportunities and understanding of religious and cultural diversity
  • Basic understanding of  ICT
  • Positive attitude, friendly, flexible approach to others and all tasks deemed necessary.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Some basic experience of a parent involved childcare setting
  • Basic knowledge and experience in Early Years Foundation Units
  • Working towards Ofsted recognised qualification within the Early Years

Hours: Part-Time – Flexible - Role.

Salary Range: In-Line with National Minimum Wages
