THE POST

The Room Lead is responsible to the Nursery Manager, Deputy Manager. Their duties will be that of a nursery practitioner with extra responsibilities as detailed below. The Senior Nursery Practitioner may be required periodically to take on an acting role as named Deputy Manager in his/her absence, resulting in deputising for the Nursery Manager and be responsible for the daily running and administration of the nursery in his/her absence.

A DBS check and references are required by Ofsted before any appointment can be confirmed.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Working in partnership with the Manager and Deputy to ensure the daily running and administration of the nursery, adhering to the Policies and Procedures of Bluebell Children’s Nurseries and compliance with the Children Act, Health and Safety legislation and within the guidelines of Ofsted and EYFS statutory framework and practise guidance.

To be aware of, and respond to the companies child protection and confidentiality policies.

Having key-holder responsibility.

To attend parent evenings and open days as required.

To attend staff and team meetings where appropriate.

Acting as a Named Coordinator relevant to their skills or training as designated by the Nursery Manager.

Supervising Nursery Teachers, Assistants and Students and carrying out appraisals where appropriate under the guidance of the Manager/Deputy Manager.

Being responsible for a staff team in a designated area of the nursery, assisting with inductions, addressing any staff queries, and promoting and supporting team work.

Organising staff in area of responsibility, effective mentoring of junior staff, effective delegation and communication and promoting positive attitudes regarding Bluebell Children’s Nurseries.

Providing a good role model for Nursery Teachers, Assistants and Students and helping new staff to fit into the nursery.

To keep up to date with developments in childcare and legislations through regular training as appropriate.

Providing feedback to the Manager or Deputy Manager on issues relating to the nursery day.

Liaising with parents, addressing any queries and negotiating working targets, encouraging parental involvement to ensure effective communication within the nursery.

The Room Leads must at all times ensure that only designated staff administer medication.

Keeping and monitoring accident, incident and risk assessment records.

Offering all children equal opportunities with regard to their religious persuasion, racial origins, gender, disabilities, cultural or linguistic background; in particular challenging situations where racism or discrimination is displayed.

Assisting the Manager and Deputy Manager, participating in arranging regular parents’ evenings, publicity, open weekends and children’s outings and ensuring effective marketing.

To assist in the ordering of equipment and ensuring it is maintained to a high standard.

To implement the EYFS to the highest standard.

Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by the Nursery Manager
