Purpose of Post – To be an outstanding deputy manager, leading on initiatives as detailed below and ensuring that Nursery runs smoothly in the absence of the Manager
As Deputy Manager you will:
· Support the manager in carrying out day to day tasks.
· Be in charge in the absence of the manager/director.
· To be a Nursery keyholder.
· Be a designated safeguarding lead and take the lead on any issues that occur.
· To lead on room routines, and teaching and learning throughout Nursery, to include the outdoor provision.
· To work and support in the room when rotered in, needed or to save on staff hours, leading on excellent practice and modelling for the staff.
· Have the confidence to successfully tackle any issues that may arise.
· Develop parental partnerships.
· Develop a good working relationship with the manager.
· Deal with staff illness in the absence of the manager, arranging cover where required, ensuring that Nursery remains in ratio.
· Contribute to staff meetings and provide an element of fun!
· Be a keyholder and conduct opening and closing checks.
· Manage ratios and staffing where necessary, acting in the best interests of Nursery and sending staff home if needed.
· Take part in any nursery investigations where necessary to include, but not limited to, investigations, disciplinaries and capability meetings.
· To be part of the recruitment process.
· Conduct performance management/ safeguarding supervisions under the guidance of the manager.
· Deal with any concerns raised when the Manager is not on site, and report to the Manager if necessary.
· Take part in any other activities or responsibilities as deemed necessary by the leadership team.
· To be able to think outside of the box where needed.

Line Management Responsibilities
To lead the setting in the absence of the manager or director.
Deputy manager. - Person Specification:
Skills, aptitude, knowledge and experience
· To have at least two years experience working in an early years setting.
Previous leadership experience as a room leader or deputy manager.
· A positive approach to learning and gaining new skills through teamwork and training opportunities
· To have good knowledge of the EYFS and statutory requirements
· To be an outstanding practitioner.
· To have experience of working with children with EAL.
· SENDCO experience
· Experience of being a designated safeguarding lead, or a willingness to train.
· To have led a room through an OFSTED inspection and achieved at least ‘Good’
· Understanding of different methods of teaching and learning, and knowledge to adapt these to meet the needs of specific children.

Qualifications
· Completion of a recognised Level 3 Childcare qualification, e.g. Level 3 Certificate for the Children & Young People’s Workforce, NVQ Level 3 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development.
· A positive approach to gaining further qualifications
· Some understanding of the importance of Health & Safety and Food Hygiene in the workplace
To hold an ‘assessing vocational competence’ award
· Completion of a recognised SENDCO qualification.
· Completion of Designated safeguarding lead training.
· Health & Safety certificate
· Paediatric First Aid certificate
· Completion of other relevant courses
