About the Role

As a Housekeeper, you will play a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for children, staff, and visitors. This position involves a variety of cleaning and housekeeping tasks essential for the smooth operation of the nursery. The housekeeper ensures that all areas are hygienic and well-maintained, contributing significantly to the overall well-being of the nursery community.

 About the Nursery 

Tops Havant Nursery is a 54 place Day Nursery & Pre-School situated in Stockheath Lane, Portsmouth. The nursery run several extra-curricular activities including Tops Forest School, cooking school, Boogie Mites, yoga, meditation and much more!

What does the role involve?

  • Clean and disinfect classrooms, play areas, restrooms, kitchens, and common areas.
  • Dust and wipe down surfaces, including tables, chairs, shelves, and windowsills.
  • Ensure toys and play equipment are cleaned and sanitized regularly.
  • Inform nursery manager of equipment or supplies needed when running out
  • Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks, and changing areas.
  • Replenish soap, toilet paper, and paper towels as needed
  • Wash, dry, fold, and store nursery linens, towels, and children's bedding.
  • Ensure all laundry is handled hygienically and stored appropriately.
  • Empty and dispose of trash and recycling bins regularly.
  • Ensure waste is segregated and disposed of according to nursery guidelines.
  • Report any maintenance issues, broken equipment, or safety hazards to the Nursery Manager promptly.
  • Adhere to nursery policies and health and safety guidelines, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Complete fogging if and when needed following all H/S guidelines

What are we looking for? 

  • Previous experience in a housekeeping or cleaning role, preferably in a childcare or educational setting.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently without constant supervision.
  • Good physical stamina and the ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting and moving furniture and equipment.
  • Good communication skills to interact effectively with staff and report issues as needed.
