The early years group, which operates four nurseries in Huddersfield, celebrated its 30th anniversary by giving its employees the good news that they no longer needed to think about childcare, while working.
'Constantly improving' benefits scheme
Portland Nurseries' joint managing director Michael Murphy said: "Everyone should be able to give their child the childcare they need. We found some of our own staff were struggling with rising costs and we thought about how we could help them.
“Giving them free childcare is a natural step in our benefits scheme structure that we are constantly improving to help and reward them.”
Staff are also being rewarded with flexible working hours, ‘Wellbeing Days’ off on top of their paid holidays, private health care, bonus scheme and wellbeing plans with NHS therapists. A Staff Loyalty Scheme rewards employees with gifts and extra holidays for service over five years.
As a result of these rewards, staff stay in their jobs for longer with the average employment of a staff member lasting over five years. Eight staff have worked for the business for 10 years, three for 15 years, two for 20 years and two employees have spent 25+ years working for the company.
The company's website highlights: 'At Portland Nurseries we are committed to the ongoing training and development of our staff team, to enable everyone to reach their full career potential. You may be a fully trained and qualified childcare practitioner or someone who is looking for a rewarding career in childcare.
'Whatever your background, age or experience there are opportunities to work with children at Portland Nurseries.'
