There were exciting learning opportunities at every turn for children at Green Park Day Nursery in Reading as they received a special visit from the ZooLab and its animals.

At the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on South Oak Way, pre-schoolers were delighted to get up close and personal with an array of creatures, including an African land snail, snake, gerbil and centipede, all whilst learning facts from expert handlers.

As part of the experience, children were able to hold and stroke the creatures, before learning about their basic needs and care routines, including diet and habitat, as well as copying the animal movements in an activity designed to develop gross motor skills.

Green Park Day Nursery Manager, Lora Worthington explained;

“We had a fantastic visit from the ZooLab and this has sparked a real interest in life cycles amongst the group. Not only did they get to interact with these amazing animals, but they also learned about the importance of taking care of our environment and respecting all living creatures. It was a fun and educational experience that we hope they will remember.”

Green Park are also the proud holders of a prestigious Green Flag with Distinction from Eco-Schools, which was awarded for exceptional environmental and conservation efforts, with activities including garden insect observations and creating habitats for garden visitors.
