Following an interest in the emergency services, pre-schoolers from Willows Day Nursery in Aylesbury were delighted to welcome local firefighters to the setting for a special visit.

At the award-winning day nursery on Mandeville Road, the Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue heroes spoke to captivated children about their important work in the community, including the equipment used to extinguish flames and the protective clothing worn to stay safe.

As part of the learning experience, children were delighted to climb onboard the fire engine, where firefighters gave a guided tour of the vehicle and its sirens, before asking the experts their questions and discussing the ways they could protect themselves from hazards. Willows Day Nursery Practitioner, Laura Duncan explained;

“We are so grateful to the fire brigade for giving up their time to give our children such a memorable afternoon. This was hugely insightful and has since inspired lots of exciting activities in nursery, including role play sessions, obstacle courses and arts and crafts.”
