Recipient: Tiggers @ Tetbury Private Day Nursery

Date: Sunday 21 Jul 2019

Tigger's @ Tetbury have achieved the prestigious national award in acknowledgement of their commitment to providing outstanding food and food education for children in their care.

By achieving a Soil Association Food for Life Early Years award Tigger's @ Tetbury has demonstrated they are providing tasty, nutritious meals and an environment that encourages good social skills and healthy choices.
They are also supporting the development of good food habits for life through practical cooking and growing activities and food-based learning – both for children and their parents and carers.

Levi Stevens, Nursery Manager at Tiggers @ Tetbury said:

“Our Food for Life journey has been an extremely enjoyable experience. Not only do we get recognition for the hard work and high standards of care and education that we already provide, but we are also now able to enhance our current knowledge and practices.

We are forever trying to keep up to date with current information, resources and projects, which is why we decided to join the Food for Life programme.

In light of this we have been reviewing our current practices on how we can further encourage healthy eating throughout our setting, how we educate the children throughout activities, growing our own foods and cooking our own meals by taking part in regular cookery classes, in addition to our weekly cooking activities.

As a team we have evaluated our current practices and have made plans on how we can continue to improve. Due to our extensive research, we have found new ideas in which we are eager to implement and are very excited about!

Since embarking on our food for life award, we have focused on changing our menus to become even more sustainable and for the children to become more involved within the meal preparations.

We thoroughly recommend this award and would like to thank Sian and her team for all the help, advice and support along the way, they have been brilliant!”

Siân Creagh-Osborne, Food for Life Awards Programme Manager added:

“I am incredibly proud of Tigger's @ Tetbury for their hard work in achieving a Food for Life Early Years award. By meeting all of the criteria they are demonstrating that they are not only providing the nutritious food that plays such a crucial role in a child’s development, but are enriching the curriculum through growing and cooking, giving every child in their care the best possible start in life.”

A survey by Food for Life shows that 90% of parents say that the provision of healthy food is an important choice factor when selecting an early year’s provider for their children, I hope the award will be a useful guide for parents and carers in the process of choosing a nursery, as it verifies that Tiggers @ Tetbury are meeting and excelling the extensive Food for Life criteria.”
