View Full Details of First Steps at CansfieldWe started my son at nursery when he was 3 to get him ready for school. The staff have been so friendly towards him and encouraged him to play with the other children. They've actively asked and listened to what he likes and doesn't like, and have gone above and beyond to make sure he gets food that he likes and is happy. My son absolutely loves going, he loves the activities they do there and he's always excited about seeing his friends. I particularly like that when I pick him up and a member of staff from the baby area answers the door, they still know his name and who his key worker is. The manager seems to know everything about every child which is absolutely lovely to see, I didn't expect her to be as involved as she is but she clearly cares a lot about her job and that's reflected in all the staff. I'm very happy that we chose this nursery and we will be sending my youngest there when he's older too.
I would highly recommend First Steps to anyone considering a childcare setting for their child. My son started just before he turned one and initially struggled with the transition. The staff at First Steps were absolutely incredible with this: arranging extra settling sessions; having regular communication with me and also reassuring me. Within a matter of weeks, it was like I was dropping a different child off and that was down to the support of all of the staff. He is now so excited to go to nursery every morning and clearly enjoys his time there. My son (who is now almost 18 months old) attends First Steps four days a week and has also come on incredibly well in recent months with his speech, confidence and social interaction. The staff at First Steps go above and beyond in all aspects - picks ups and drop-offs are never rushed; there are amazing relationships between the staff and children and the care, support and encouragement they provide is simply outstanding.
I highly recommend First Steps if you are choosing a childcare provider. My first child really struggled at a previous nursery in the area, to the point where he cried every time we dropped him off, however he absolutely thrived when we started him at First Steps. Therefore, it was a no-brainer when we had to choose somewhere for our second child. The staff are brilliant, and so friendly, and my little one always has a big smile on his face when he turns up at the door. I always feel at ease when he is there which is really important. I can trust that he is eating well, safe and having fun.
Our lil' one (referenced as LO from now on) started attending First Steps from last year's autumn term. From thereon, she has made such remarkable progress, in terms of (including): 1. her mastery of English; social communication and etiquette; 2.confidence in herself when engaging in various activities with others and when needing to be independent 3. pro-activeness initiating and participating in fun-play sessions with any other child even when out of nursery environment. 4. such high growth of EQ in terms of her sensing needs in others and offer to resolve, like offering help, asking if the other party/parties are doing okay and offer assurance that things be okay. Some of these things, she might have picked up at home out of educational videos but nonetheless it's my belief that the nursery had played a huge part, in shaping the overall attributes of what our LO has now come to have. Credits to all staffs who show that they care, despite how busy they get at all times.
My daughter currently attends first steps and has done so for the past 2 years from being 11 months old. Since starting nursery she has flourished in every way possible. She's always happy to go to nursery and has never felt like she doesn't want to go even when she's off for whatever reason she wants to be in nursery as the staff team is amazing each and every single one of the staff are very supportive and caring and would do anything for me as a mother or for my daughter. The overall experience has been lovely for myself and my daughter and I am hoping to get my second born into this nursery in the next couple of months. Highly recommended. Thank you first steps! You're doing amazing! The only thing I would change is how the day is communicated would be amazing if we had an app or a written planner to keep track of what they've been getting up to each day.
Absolutely brilliant nursery and such caring and kind staff. They all go above and beyond for my little girl. My little girl loves attending first steps and and walks in so excited and happy when she is greeted by the staff. The staff are just as caring towards parents as they are to the children. You don't feel rushed during the morning drop off and my little girl is so excited and happy to see the staff open the door to her. My little girl has come on leaps and bounds recently whilst toilet training and I know most of her confidence during this has come from nursery and her teachers. This nursery should be Ofsted outstanding, the setting in itself is so homely and so full of happiness and you can tell the only main focus is our children. I never fear my child will be upset, as her smile beams when ever we talk about her teachers and friends at home.
My son has been going to this nursery since he was 14 weeks old due to an early return to work, as a brand new mum my nerves were eased by how much they cared for him and how much they fed back to me, they ring me when needed and have very good policies in place for your children and other children's safety. We have never had a day where he has cried going into the nursery or being picked up. I trust them with my child and to see how happy he is to see the staff reassures me he is getting the right care and early education. He also has some minor medical needs with his skin and they pay extra care and attention so he doesn't flare up, they apply cream when they think it's necessary and change his clothes so he doesn't become irritated. We are very happy we chose this nursery.
I honestly can't praise First Steps enough. All of the staff are lovely and have been so supportive from the settling-in sessions before my son had even started all the way up to the transition to school; they have been there every step of the way. When it became clear that my child needed some extra support, they went out of their way to make sure he had everything he needed to feel safe and secure and still thrive while he was at nursery. (As well as helping us as parents navigate the minefield that is having a kid with additional needs). I wouldn't trust anyone else with my kids now and I already have my daughter's name down to go to First Steps next year!
I cannot praise First Steps Nursery enough. When my daughter started in January 2023 she was quiet and timid. Within no time at all, she blossomed into a confident, little girl thanks to the staff at First Steps. The staff are friendly with parents and fantastic with the kids. My little girl absolutely loved her time there, especially swimming lessons every Wednesday. Her confidence in the water now is great. I would highly recommend First Steps to any parent or guardian considering a local nursery.
Absolutely superb nursery with the most caring, supportive staff you can get. Would not send my children anywhere else. Staff very friendly and made my return to work much easier. Both my girls loved/love being there. Nothing is too much trouble for anyone.
