View Full Details of Dicky Birds Day Nursery and Preschool Raynes Park, Durham RoadOur daughter's carers are great, personable and really care about what they are doing. More updates for the Monday and Fridays would be appreciated as it feels like most activities and updates are on Tuesday to Thursday. We haven't been best pleased with the constant change, be it in staff, management or the rooms/groups. It's been all over the place. Lastly, the code on the doors has been the same for at least two years, which might be a risk?
We are so happy with the staff at Dicky Birds. Our son absolutely adores being there and it's clear he has an amazing relationship with his carer and the other staff. We have noticed his development going from strength to strength from his time at Dicky Birds. The staff are all very friendly and loving. Thank you.
Our daughter has been at Dicky Birds from one year old and is off to school in September. She has loved her time there and often doesn't want to leave at the end of each day. The staff are dedicated and caring.
My son is still fairly new to Dicky Birds, Durham Road however I am already so impressed with the staff and facilities. The team in the Puffins room in particular are wonderful. They are kind, compassionate and nurturing and their communication has been excellent. I always appreciate their honesty on how my son has been each day and feel like they really care about him and how they can give him the best experience while attending dicky birds. After only 2 sessions, my son and I had a day off together and I asked him what he would like to do that day. He said ‘Go to nursery mummy, to see the ladies and the children’ - I think that sums everything up perfectly really. Thank you Puffins team, you guys are brilliant at what you do and we’re very grateful for all your hard work and care.
Our daughter has been at the nursery since we moved to the area about 12 months ago when she was one. She’s always been happy to go to nursery, has a close relationship with the staff, and seems to be progressing through her interactive learning with the team well. We’ve always been happy with the nursing staff, and the facilities, and would more than recommend the nursery to other parents.
Our children have always been very happy. I am pleased to send them there and will continue to do so. Thank you to all their teachers who continue to make their lives fulfilling with activities and daily fun!
Very happy with the level of care my son receives at Dicky Birds Durham Road. He has been with them for over a year and loves going to nursery. He regularly chats to us at home about his little pals and his room team. It’s so hard to leave your little loved ones in the care of others, but I feel 100% confident that he is happy, cared for and flourishing with the wonderful team of staff there.
Used to be the best nursery in the area with many months long waiting list. Had two kids there between 2019 -2023. the biggest asset is the baby room where team seems to be stable and genuinely caring. Pre- school room known as Pelicans is the one where both my kids were unhappy. Limited outings, high turnover of the staff. There is just no excitement from staff in the morning what so ever. Over all standards dropped ever since Grandir took over. From my point of view, it very much depends on what room is your child in and who is the key worker. There are some fantastic carers who do care about the children and equally there are those who could not look more bored and uninterested. Staff deserving shout out is Amina, Shannon, Shaunie, Hannah and Julie. Offsted closed nursery for more less a week last year, followed by unsatisfactory report. that makes you wonder. 10 hours a day is a long day for the little ones, choose carefully where you put them.
My child moved to Dick Birds Durham Road in April 2023. He settled in quickly and is really happy there. The assistant manager is great - always available to answer questions. His time in the puffin's room has been fantastic. The staff in there are so caring and fun! He is currently settling into Pelicans, and one lady is an absolute credit.
We had 2 children at the nursery covering the period of Sept-2019 to May 2023. The nurturing environment we joined in 2019 is no longer there, the feel of the nursery completely changed. Staff are overstretched and demotivated. The nursery now does the bare minimum for the children. Previously they would go to local parks every day with staff, now there is limited outside time and only weekly trips out at best. Previously there were sports lessons, swimming classes and forest school for preschool classes, this has all been cut back. The nursery was sold to a larger organization and no surprise the standards have slipped whilst simultaneously the fees and profit margins have gone up. Parents raised concerns a number of times with Management and got little engagement or improvement. The recent OFSTED poor reviews are the final straw for the nursery. Needless to say, we moved our children to a better, more outside-focussed nursery.
The nursery has unfortunately fallen well below standards expected. We have been with this nursery for 5 yrs. It is currently a different nursery altogether from the nurturing and developmentally focused environment, where our older daughter spent her early years. Rooms are understaffed, with the assistant manager often having to attend to the children by herself at dropoff. Parents are asked to stay well into opening times to wait for room staff to turn up. Temp staff provide minimal attention to the children and often leave within weeks, putting perm staff under tremendous pressure. Our child came back with unexplained injuries on numerous occasions. Sometimes injury reports were not provided, as they hadn't even noticed the large bruise on his face or open wounds on his hands. It also took 2 months for the team to complete an allergy care plan for our child's cow's milk allergy when he first joined. Daynurseries need to update their scoring system as we'd give 0 stars if we could.
Both our children attend Dickybirds and we can’t speak highly enough of the staff in the Pelicans and Signets rooms. The boys both love their respective key workers and have formed a real and lasting bond with all the staff in their respective rooms. Our only negative comment relating to our experience at Dickybirds is that the communication from the nursery’s management team is almost nonexistent. They’ve been stretched far too thin and are barely able to reply to the simplest enquiry. Also, Kiddy Carru has raised the nursery fees multiple times in the last few months with very little explanation or justification. The staff in the rooms are fantastic but they are let down spectacularly by their managers and employers.
The staff have all been very friendly and really helped our boy settle. The children do a range of activities throughout the day and are well looked after. The faculties are a bit worn though, and updates to the app are a bit patchy.
We are very happy with Dicky Birds Durham Road. All the staff we know seem to deeply care about the children. We think a few of them are like an extended family. Our children have strong bonds with them. They go there all day every day, and we can see how much they learn. The activities are varied; they do baking, drawing, painting, messy play, reading, singing and dancing, and they go to the park a couple of times a week. The food is cooked on-site every day, and the menu is varied. We are very happy overall. On the slightly negative side: It would be good to have parts of the building/rooms refreshed as some parts are old now. The communication/emails from management are not regular, and the fees increased twice lately: once in September once coming up in April. It’s becoming very expensive, and we don’t have a choice but to accept these fees. We are not businesses ourselves, so increasing the fees twice within eight months during this period of inflation is very difficult for us.
Lovely team in Pelicans is always bright and cheery. Our child has thrived at Dicky Birds. We feel well supported, and he is well cared for. Would highly recommend Durham Road - we have been there since 12 months.
Great care for my child and always take an interest in my son's development. I would prefer more information about the menu and perhaps support in teeth brushing as other nurseries do this.
The team are doing well despite being under significant pressure and a crisis in the sector. Short staffing leads to a rise in agency staff who do not know the children as well and therefore cannot help children with their ongoing development needs in as significant a way. The long-serving team are to be commended for their engagement and dedication, and this can be seen in the passing down knowledge to you get staff. The nursery feels safe, is well-resourced, and children are cared for. The provision of phonics has changed, and I would say this is not for the better. There is less structured play than previously and less detailed observations, which all point to a lack of resourcing and support for nursery staff across the sector as they are expected to do the same with less money relative to the cost of living.
I have full confidence in sending my son to Dicky Birds Day Nursery because of the hard work of the people that run and support his room (Pelicans). In particular, I am continually impressed by his room leader for her ingenuity with activities and commitment to every single child. Most recently we received thoughtful Mother’s Day gifts that would have taken a huge amount of work and planning.
Dicky Birds Day Nursery and Preschool is a wonderful nursery. The love and care they show our son is genuine and constant. He was quite socially anxious when he started nursery, but the staff went to such great efforts to make him comfortable and happy, his confidence has grown immeasurably this past 18 months. Every day, my son comes home saying he’s “had fun”! The range of activities and the experiences offered is amazing, and my son has learnt so much through playing and exploring - trips to the local park to play football is a particular favourite of his. The food offered to the children is incredible, I feel very confident that my son eats tasty, balanced, varied meals and snacks, and portions are generous with second helpings given when wanted. The bond my son has with the staff at Dicky Birds has blown me away and exceeded my expectations. We don’t have family close by, but Dicky Birds have filled that gap and become extended family, a home-from-home for my son. I couldn’t recommend the nursery more highly.
We couldn’t be happier with our son’s nursery experience at Dicky Birds Day Nursery and Preschool. His class team and the management team are so warm and friendly. The love and care our son gets is so clear to see - he adores his time there and settled in straight away. I especially love the effort and creativity that goes into the daily activities. I feel comforted that he is happy and very well cared for every time I drop him off. Would very much recommend Dicky Birds Day Nursery and Preschool Durham Road!
