7 Minster Yard, York, YO1 7JD
View Full Details of Little Green Rascals Day Nursery Minster YardWe are extremely pleased with our experience at LGR Minster Yard. The location is very convenient, with the beautiful Church a stones throw from the nursery. My son started at 7 months old, and I have always felt impressed with the care he has received - now, he leans in to his key person every morning, so excited to go inside! I am amazed by the quality and variety of the food he eats, and nursery has certainly assisted us hugely with his weaning journey. The range of activities offered impresses me daily (and especially the messy ones, which my son seems to love!) and the thoughtfulness of the staff. Nothing is too much trouble, and they have been so accommodating and flexible. We love getting notifications on the app about what he's been up to in the day and checking in with his key person every evening, where we can chat through his day. A wonderful nursery - we feel comfortable dropping our son off each day, and confident that he is learning so much in the care of the staff.
We are really happy with the care provided at this nursery. My son started at 9 months and I found it difficult to leave him at first but he has flourished in the past 5 months. The staff are very helpful, friendly and engaged with the children. The activities and toys on offer are superb and beyond anything we can do at home. My son has developed a strong bond with staff members and particularly loves the sensory room and outdoor activities this nursery offers. He has learned so much at nursery, including songs, sign language and new skills. I'm really pleased we chose this nursery. The staff are great at keeping you updated throughout the day on the app too - not too many updates but enough that you know your child is having a good day. I would always trust them to phone me if he's poorly or struggling, but that has only happened once. I would recommend this nursery to friends and family.
My girls have been going here since they were 6 months old and they are turning two soon. We are delighted with our experience with Minster yard. The staff are great and genuinely very caring towards the children. The nursery is well equipped and clean. They get plenty of outdoor time and activities. It was a tough decision for us to pick a nursery, as we have twins and the price was a worry, but we are so thankful we chose LGR (despite it not being the cheapest!) as it's just been amazing for their development. The management team have also been great at finding space for ad hoc days when we need them. My only tiny bit of feedback would be that the previous app was much better than the current one, but other than that I have only glowing things to say about this lovely nursery.
Staff are nice and the buildings/facilities are nicer than other nurseries we looked at. Things I don't like - Expensive and they don't let you use all the free child care hours unless your child goes full time. I think this is completely ridiculous. They're always trying to send kids home. Our other kids at another nursery and they let you use all the free hours first before charging and if the kids got a fever but is alright they're happy to give paracetamol and see how they go. One day at drop off I admitted to giving the paracetamol in the morning as she was teething and then was told they couldn't come in for 6 hours after having paracetamol so I got to miss a morning at work and a mornings pay. Got sent home one day for suspected hand foot and mouth, not unwell just a few spots on a hand, despite having a sign at the entrance saying they don't need excluding for hand for and mouth.
Staff are very supportive and kind and caring. Very good information sessions on preparing kids for school. Great facilities and opportunities for a variety of experiences for children to grow and learn.
We are so thrilled with our daughter's progress since moving up to pre-school. The staff are so caring and she absolutely loves it there. The forest school provision is fantastic as are the variety of activities and extra activities from external providers including yoga, science tots and football.
The nursery is fine - most staff seem generally attentive and supportive of our son. The range of activities on offer is good, and I like that there is forest school. Another nursery I recently visited seems to offer more trips out, so I feel more could be offered here. Food seems good, but there's definitely a fair bit of repetition in the menus. The parent app recently changed, which is disappointing. Although staff do their best with updates, the new app itself is buggy and lacking features that the old app handled very well. It has also made more admin tasks manual, which is a step backwards. Overall OK, but just not convinced on value for money, given recent price hikes in January put the fees at well above the average for York.
My child is quite shy and reserved, but the staff make them feel incredibly welcome and valued and as a result, our child flourishing at Little Green Rascals. We can’t thank the staff enough for building our child’s confidence. Our child is very happy which is all we want.
We have been so happy with Little Green Rascals for our girls. Every single person has been absolutely amazing and you can tell they really care about each child. Thank you for making such a lovely learning environment for our little ones to flourish.
The staff are attentive and caring and work to support each individual child’s needs. My daughter loves the forest school sessions and has made some lovely friends. The updates and opportunities provided by the staff daily are excellent.
I’ve had a brilliant experience with Little Green Rascals, Minster Yard and highly recommend the nursery. The team have been so caring and thoughtful as my son transitioned from his previous nursery, constantly communicating with me for us to work out the best strategies to help him settle, and celebrating as he makes progress. They demonstrate a really clear understanding of his strengths and next steps. It’s incredibly reassuring to get daily updates and reports on what he’s been up to, as well as look ahead to the next day’s activities and menus. Admin updates etc are also timely and helpful. The facilities, catering, and activities are all excellent, but it’s the staff that really make this a super place for a little one to learn and grow.
My son attends Little Green Rascals Minster Yard and loves it. The staff are all super friendly and incredibly attentive. He's had a few key workers as he's moved through the rooms, and they've all been fantastic. They always take the time at drop-off to talk through the day and explain what he's been up to, who he's played with, any progress in any areas, and how he's eaten. Little Green Rascals uses the app which is updated frequently both at a room level and a child level with pictures, bug board updates, menus and activities.
It is the end of my son’s first full week here at Little Green Rascals, Minster Yard and all I can say is thank you from the bottom of my heart. I had previously heard of the great reputation this nursery had but now I have experienced the fantastic care, incredible energy commitment and constant enthusiasm the staff provide for our children. We receive constant updates and we are always left feeling like my boy is in the best possible hands for the day. A special mention to his key worker who has been fantastic from the start. We feel very lucky to have a place here. Thank you. Our boy is very happy and that makes for a very happy mummy and daddy.
We have the most amazing experience at Little Green Rascals. The staff are incredible and we know our little boy is in the best and safest hands when attending. He is always happy and well looked after. They genuinely care about his health and well-being and development.
We removed our daughter as we were just so disappointed with the care, the reporting, the assessments, the lack of outdoor trips, menu that had been the same for many years. We have found that although the senior management is efficient in their roles, the actual team that is looking after the children although very welcoming, many of them lack the ability to follow simple instructions, make proper assessments and share learning outcomes. On pick up there is no description of a handover, no one seems to know what the children have eaten and weekly updates could include 2/3 pics of photos of no substance. On pick up, the children were always left to their own devices with many staff sat about and our daughter became anxious over her time there, exceptionally clingy on a weekend after her nursery days and we weren’t happy with the situation at all. It’s a huge corporate nursery and sadly we saw it decline as the numbers rose.
Excellent overall experience. We are really happy with the nursery in general. I only miss some pictures of my child enjoying activities and/or communication about what activities she enjoyed the most.
Lovely nursery, always an abundance of activities which are often themed to make a week more cohesive and fun. Football and science sessions are favourites. Lots of space for everyone to play and the forest school is great, hoping that reopens before my daughter leaves for school. They have a chef who works really hard preparing fresh organic food for everyone and they also are very careful with any dietary requirements you may have (allergies, religion, vegan, etc). Staff are so helpful and always seem eager to be there. They have a SENCO department which is fab and works with the family to help with any developmental concerns/delays etc, so any questions can be answered and tasks to do are cohesive making it easier for the child. I also love how management arrange a first aid course (brief one) for parents/family as it's so important! Only downside is that it is a little bit more expensive than other nurseries. All in all, a fab nursery, we definitely recommend it!
Great nursery, staff are friendly, we appreciate the updates on our little one and the communication. We love the variety of activities provided and attention to detail. Enjoy the app used and the food provided sounds great.
We highly recommend the nursery. Our little boy is thriving, learning something new every day, very close to his key person and other staff members and just so happy. We always get a full summary of his dates and receive pictures regularly. Such a great nursery!
I love Little Green Rascals and my son has been attending since he was 1 and he is now 3 and a half years. He really enjoys it. I like the approach, the outdoor things, the forest school and the use of York as a location (going to the library etc.). The staff are lovely and kind. Many seem very young and it would be great to have a few more male staff but they are lovely staff. If I would have one criticism it would be that the daily cost has increased a huge amount in two years. It’s now at least £15 more per day than other good nurseries. I understand it but it did mean I had to drop a nursery day earlier this year and if I had not begun to receive my funding this year I also would have had to move nurseries altogether. The location and value-added do demand a slightly higher fee but I don’t think by that much.
