View Full Details of Bassett House SchoolThis school is everything I want from a nursery - kind, compassionate and fun. Lets face it your kid learns when he enjoys the day. The teacher to pupil ratio is excellent. The facilities are second to non. Bear house has all the toys kids dream off. Behind the fun though there is some serious stuff going on with the kids already straight into there phonics. My eldest is at Bassett House and the transition from nursery to Reception is excellent as they are in the same building and used to seeing the older kids.
My daughter went from a private daycare to Bassett House Nursery and absolutely thrived. She started excelling in her vocabulary, speech, comprehension, reading, maths, and art. She has developed a lovely network of friends (the parents are great too) and has really blossomed into a lovely girl, working hard to always achieve her house points. I felt that Bassett was small enough to provide the community feel I was after, yet sructured enough to provide the education I was after, all with keeping in mind that my child is young and therefore learning should be encouraged through play. Loved having my daughter with Mrs. Hughes looking after her, and very excited to be having her little sister join as soon as she turns 2 as well!
Having moved both our children to Basset we are delighted about the school experience so far. The facilities are great but the teaching staff are what really make the school experience so wonderful. Our children have excelled since joining becoming more independent and even teaching us a few things. They are always happy to go to school which is something that we always feared in them starting somewhere new but often they are in such a hurry to get into school they forget to say goodbye.
We could not have asked for a better start to 'school life' than the one my child had at Bassett Bear House. The head of early years and nursery lead leads a fantastic team of staff that ensures a nurturing and exciting environment for all the children. They make learning fun and dynamic while getting the children well versed in the basics they need to start school. We were really impressed with how much my child learnt but also so happy with the community of friends he built. It is also wonderful how involved the nursery is with the rest of the school making it a great stepping stone before reception.
We couldn't be happier with our experience at Bassett. From the very beginning, it was clear that this is a place where children are truly cared for and nurtured in a calm and thoughtful environment. Our son has grown so much during his time here-both academically and personally. It's been amazing to see how much he has learned, all while feeling completely at ease. The teachers are truly outstanding. They are kind, patient, and incredibly attentive, always taking the time to understand each child's individual needs. Their gentle approach created a space where our son felt comfortable, confident, and excited to learn every day. One of the things we appreciated most was the calm and peaceful atmosphere of the nursery. It was the perfect setting for our son, allowing him to thrive without feeling overwhelmed. The thoughtful activities, creative play, and strong focus on emotional well-being made it clear that the staff truly care about the children's overall development.
We have had a fantastic experience so far at Bassett House. The level of care and teaching has been first class. Most importantly, from day one, our child has been very happy going to nursery every day.
A nurturing environment with fantastic caring teachers who seem to genuinely care about the children's development and wellbeing. The space may seem smaller than other nurseries, but they make such a good effort to take the children outside, as well as local trips to the library, fire station and theatre.
My two older children are at the school so naturally I was thrilled to learn that my youngest could join them in the Nursery and the progress through to the main school. The early years team are incredible, headed by the force of nature the Head of Early Years (a mother of one of the pupils herself). She is everything you want in a Nursery teacher; loving, nurturing and the perfect guide for little minds. Since my daughter started she has come leaps and bounds in her language skills, numeracy, imaginative play and social skills. She is able to interact with adults and children alike, and the best thing about Bassett in my opinion is that it truly feels like a family, so all 150-odd children and staff know each other and are friends. The Nursery rooms themselves are a dream come true with soft-play and sensory style facilities, toilets made for tinies and every other need anticipated and catered-for. Thank goodness for Bassett!
My daughter started at the nursery in January, mid-year, as we decided to transfer her from another setting that wasn't the best fit for her. Despite joining halfway through the year, she adapted incredibly well, and I'm so grateful to one lady for making the transition so smooth and welcoming. Every time I picked her up, I saw a happy, playful child - such a contrast to our previous experience. She was learning something new every day, and what's been especially wonderful is how excited she's been to share it all with me. Seeing her enjoy nursery so much and thrive in this environment has brought me real peace of mind. Thank you to the whole team for creating such a warm, supportive, and engaging space for the children!
My child and I had a very positive experience at Bassett Bear House Nursery. My child was extremely happy at school and never once was unhappy to go to school. There were no tears at drop-off. I found the teachers to be extremely warm and nurturing, exactly what I wanted from a nursery. Most of the learning was based around play, which is the approach that I was looking for. The children also got to engage with older children, higher up in the school. My child really enjoyed spending time with the older children and learning from them.
